3.5mm to 4.4mm Jack even exist?

more_vert
I know it's a dumb question because I know a 3.5mm to a 4.4mm connection takes more hardware than a simple jack to transfer a balanced signal, but has any "balanced" nut out there found a real adapter that actually makes this work?

You know its a dumb question because its a dumb thing to do. Even if its created, you'll only drstroy whatever amp unit you're using it on by shorting the circuit. Slowly but surely. Even if someone figure its a great idea, please dont do it.

hxsmNever thought of the retroactive effects of such a jack on the amp, but great point to consider. Thanks.

I think the problem you have with trying to go from 3.5m unbalanced to 4.4 balanced is that the 3.5 is wired 'common ground' where the left and right negative - or ground - wires are tied together - hence 'common' ground. Balanced requires the right and left ground wires to be separate. An adapter cannot untie the wires leading into it.

IvabignUnderstood. So if I have a DAC with both 3.5 and 4.4mm inputs for headphones, my best bet is to get a 4.4mm tipped cable and a 3.5mm cable? Simply separate the two input options versus trying to unify them? All the 3.5-4.4 mm adapters that I HAVE seen online for sale seemed like snake oil in the first place.
