Hey, Hi, It's me again!
Based on all the conversations going on and confirmation from our vendor that these are the same items being sold on Etsy, we are going to close the drop. We will work directly with the members that have joined the drop and cancel their orders.
As always thank you for participating in the discussion and sharing information and resources!
Hey All!
Thank you for all the back and forth dialogue this morning! It's great to see everyone sharing their thoughts, opinions and other resources! This is what helps build a strong community and helps us know what to bring to guys. If it's easier to tell me what other products you're looking for here instead of creating a poll, that's fine!
And please come back and post pictures of what you're working on or already made!!!!
SandyLucasHi Sandy, YKK manufactures pretty much all the zippers today. There is no such thing as a ByAnnies zipper. This is just marketing. ByAnnies is rebranding the YKK - hence a middleman. One they get this long, YKK goes to the long pull and wider tape (more heavy duty). The teeth are identical to the smaller zippers. I've got lots of sizes and they are all supple. As mentioned there is a lot of zipper sellers selling very discounted on Etsy. It's a saturated market. Zipit carries these 10 - your choice of colors for $14.50. They have another listing for 25 for $33.75 and 50 for $62.50. At the lowest drop price plus shipping each zipper is $3.63 (vs $1.62 from Zipit) which is as high as JoAnns, which folks only use unless if it's an emergency and they have a coupon for 50% off. https://www.etsy.com/listing/285415379/24-inch-45-ykk-purse-zippers-with-a-long?ga_order=most_relevant&ga_search_type=all&ga_view_type=gallery&ga_search_query=24%22%20long%20pull%20zipper&ref=sr_gallery_13
These aren't cheap zippers. A bit pricey but great quality that I can't find elsewhere. I use them to make bags and other projects for myself, family and friends. I want them to be durable and beautiful.
But they are not special ones made By Annie's, they are YKK 4.5 long pulls you can get elsewhere. Look at ZipIt or Zipper Island on Etsy. Those are just two shops that carry them. They are the only zippers I will use for bags. Dress zippers, the size 3 don't cut it. @SandyLucas you probably had no idea what the price would be. Now if we could get Annie's Zippers by the Yard, that might be worth it, IMO.
Hi @JulieCC and @romille,
Thanks for the call out on pricing. A couple of thoughts to let you know where I was coming from on this drop. When doing my check online the only place I found that carried the ByAnnie's was ByAnnie's. I did find other zippers for less but they don't have all the features like the longer zipper pull, softer teeth or the wider tape. If you're using these for bag or a piece of clothing that is going to get a lot of use, I think those features make a big difference. Just my opinion. :-)
Mighty expensive with no choice of multiples in a certain color. There plenty of other places that are far less expensive, and I can pick out what colors and sizes I prefer.
MeredithP@MeredithP yes, I need at least two of each color because the bags I make nearly always have two zippers. I would not have much use for one of each. I only buy sets like that when they are super cheap. Or if I buy a set of colors, I buy two.
It doesn't say, but I assume these are YKK 4.5 long pulls? Even with the drop the price is way too high. They may be cheaper than Annie Unrein's site, but way more expensive than other places to purchase them.
JulieCCThe pulls in the photo say 'YKK' on them. Exactly what I was thinking... way too expensive. I was excited to see zippers, but then realized there were only 12. You can get 100 of the 24" long pull zippers for $115 from ZipIt, so $1.15 each. At the $46 drop price, that is $3.83 per zipper. Even in their smallest bundle, ZipIt sells these for $1.45 each.... Even if the drop goes to the lowest price, that is less than half the drop price.
Edited because I originally said, "For $45 you get 50 of them from ZipIt." and then realized that was for 12" zippers.
