"Each CEntrance Reserve Series cable has 14 separate conductors, shaped for optimal sonic reproduction. Bass frequencies travel in a solid central 12 AWG core conductor, which is surrounded by six stranded cores. These outside conductors carry the mid and high frequencies, resulting in solid imaging, enhanced sound staging, and true signal clarity." Jesus Tap-dancing Christ that's some good snake oil. Even if this magic is happening and your copper wire is somehow separating the different frequencies from each other, how would this even matter given the fact that the source and receiving end is a single point of contact anyway. I'd gladly pay 30-50 for a set of well built cables that look nice even if they don't sound better than something generic, but I can't stand this kind of bullshit and will always actively avoid it.

I have it on good authority that David Duchovny buys all his shaped for optimal sonic reproduction cables right here on MD.

EdTheNerdNo BS. Proven physics. Look up skin effect on Wikipedia. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Skin_effect Summary: If you listen quietly, both the lamp cord and coat hanger wire will do just fine. But... When your speakers have low impedance and you listen loud, you are starting to push serious currents (ampers) out of the amp, into the cable and into the speakers. That's starting to strain the system quite a bit. At that point, the actual impedance of the cable starts to matter, especially if the cable is thin. It heats up, impedance goes up and over several meters the cable impedance becomes appreciable (ohms, which is on par with the speakers themselves). At this point your cable is not longer a wire, but a much more complex component -- a resistor, an inductor, and a capacitor. Your amp is now working part time to power the cable rather than the speaker. Power is lost, efficiency is shot and all kinds of non-linearities start showing up in the audio, adding to the coloration of the sound. Again, this refers to high power situations (50W and higher). This type of stress is where a well-designed cable will deliver predictable results and less distortion and coloration than a thin cable that's not designed to handle peaks in audio power. If truth in music reproduction is important to you, then get good components, including amps, speakers and cables. Otherwise, a $30 Bluetooth speaker powers a small party just fine. No need to spend extra :)

CEntrance I'll keep that in mind when I reopen Studio 54 next year. 'Till then we're just regular people listening to regular components at regular volume levels in regular homes and apartments. Which begs the question: how have we gotten along, all these years without "patented MultiBraid technology"?

RayFWe have been in business for 20 years and have sold many things in this time, including studio speakers, cables and expensive DACs. Not to brag, but our MC2504 speakers are in Eric Clapton's studio and he loves them (actual truth). We have been on the cover of Stereophile twice, no small feat. Over the years we have spoken with thousands of customers and you know what? Each one is unique and there is no "stereotypical customer". Lots of folks we deal with have expensive setups and well-trained ears. Including those who shop on monoprice and drop.com (nothing wrong with a bargain!) But you are right, selling quality gear on drop is harder because many people are conditioned to pay next to nothing. And you cannot get much quality for that price, whether you buy beer, wine, watches, smartphones, clothing, etc. Cheap has the expectation of... cheap. Quality has a price.

Wine?!!! OH--I see where this is going! You're judging me because I drink wine from inexpensive brown paper bags as opposed to those environmentally responsible, reusable quality bags like you and fancy-pants Eric Clapton do! You one-percenter cable guys are all the same!

RayFYep, $50 cables surely place you in the 1%! Try Kimber at $12,000 ;) https://soundapproach.com/kimber-kable-ks6068-speaker-cable-pair.html
