Add personality to projects and gifts with this chess-inspired wax seal set from Seattle-based Global Solutions. Available with five different handles representing your favorite game pieces (king, queen, bishop, knight, and rook), the sturdy metal stamps produce a finished wax seal about 1.2 inches in diameter. They can be engraved with any letter of the alphabet—great for spelling out words and making monograms—as well as decorative designs that range from adorable animals to flags, smiley faces, and other popular symbols. And to help you get started, the set includes one 4-inch wax stick, good for between 15 and 20 impressions.
Note: This drop includes one stamp and one cranberry wax stick. Choose the king or queen stamp with any letter (A–Z, +$2), or choose the bishop, knight, or rook stamp with any of 21 different decorative designs (see below). Yin/Yang is not available for this drop. You can also add an ink pad in gold or silver (+ $4.5) or a 3-pack of wax sticks (+ $9) in any of the following combinations: copper, cranberry, and gold; gold, red-gold, and teal; or harvest gold, red, and silver.
Before you make an impression, first trim the wick so it’s flush with your wax. Then, using a lighter, soften the wax for about 10 seconds. Gently push the wick onto the paper so a small amount of wax falls onto the wick, and relight the wax. Drip 10 to 15 drops into a pool, push the lit end of the wax stick directly into the pool, and swirl it around in a circle. Push the stamp into the wax and wait 5 seconds. Then, gently rock the stamp out of the wax to leave a clean impression. If you would like to use ink with your wax, push the stamp lightly into a pigment ink pad and then into the wax.
