With the success of the Classic Art Tokens—popularized after launching on Kickstarter—creator Josh Krause has added more pieces to his collection of historically inspired gaming gear. These playmats feature the same classical aesthetic found on the tokens, just on a larger scale, and printed on high-quality materials from Inked Playmats Read More
Those added frames look really bad, and elements of the painting overstepping them just makes no sense and looks bad imo. Would have been all over the Great Wave one if it were just the original artwork.
I'd have ordered a Great Wave in a heartbeat if it wasn't for the frame. Just don't like the idea. If the idea is to let the art shine, all this does is distract from it.
Aww. I was hoping for Mucha, Dali, or it'd be perfect if you offered any H.R. Giger! :-D
But, no. I'm guessing all of these are public domain.
Oh well. Maybe next time.
Thanks for the response ... even if you're going to call Giger a ginger. :-O :-P
I understand the copyright issue if we're trying to keep to a lower cost, if it's even possible at all.
Hmm. Most of Mucha's work was posters, so I'd suggest two things.
You could focus more on pieces from his Slav Epic. Amazing pieces, especially to see in person, and they are closer to the aspect ratio of a playmat and more unnoticeably cropable. However, they are probably not nearly as recognizable to as many as "Mucha" as his Art Nouveau posters. Though how you're making the subject step out of the piece, the subjects in the Slav Epic feel like their going to come walk past you in the originals.
For more of what people expect, you could put all the pieces from his quadriptych series together in a single playmat. The Time of Day series would be my favorite.
Just ideas. Maybe they work, maybe not. Thanks for listening.
ZUUL42Yeah, his Slav Epic pieces are. Dry impressive but definitely not what he is generally known for. I have a few of his quadriptych available as options but none looked quite right when we tried them in our frame design. I am a big fan of his work as well and definitely want to include as much of his work as I can. We're working on it!
Anyone have any experience or reviews on these particular playmats? I'm not familiar with the manufacturer and wanted to know how they feel compared to the Ultra Pro playmats.
Opal42They had a kickstarter a long time ago and they have their own site. They sell at many opens and grand prixs. Its comparable to any ultra pro playmat.
