Product Description
Made of laser-cut Baltic birch plywood or clear acrylic, these collapsible pen stands are great for anyone who travels with their writing essentials and might find themselves with limited desk space. Each stand features strategically placed cutouts that make it extremely lightweight, and because it disassembles into four flat pieces, it’s there when you need it and neatly stored away when you don’t Read More

This looks pretty overpriced for a little piece of acrylic, doesn't it. If it was a school ruler, it would have been priced in the sub-dollar range. But hey, this is a pen stand, what a specialty item. Let's set the price accordingly high because the hype is what really sells. Sorry, I couldn't resist.

Thanks for your reply; I'm looking forward to receiving mine.
mulrichI hope it lives up to your expectations!
The entire order is complete, now I'm just waiting for the PO from Massdrop to hit for final numbers. Then just count 'em up to make sure I have them all done, and mail 'em off!

Gorgeous Sebenza Faden. Thanks for sharing that pic.
BabySealYou know, hadn't thought of that!
I wouldn't want to trust the top step, particularly, but they work fine on all lower steps with my Ontario, and cheap shavette. This is an acrylic with the masking still on, of course. :)

How far are the measurements between each level? Would there be enough space if I was to display a combination of pens and small pocket knives?

That looks awesome. Thanks.
FadenNo problem! You know, that's something else I might have to take a shot at sometime, see if I can make up a design for pocket knives. :)
Just for anyone curious, this is what the stand looks like with the locking wedges in place. Haven't peeled the paper on this one yet, this is one of a few that was produced as prototype for the main batch. With the wedges in, you can pick it up and shake it by the back frame, and it won't move in the slightest. BUT, the wedges are really easy to lose, add an extra assembly step, and don't really enhance the basic "sit on the table and hold pens" capability of the stand, which is why I chose to exclude them.
You guys are the customers, you have the final say. SHOULD I include them? Four to six pairs could easily be cut out of the scrap removed from the lightening cuts at the same time the stand is made, with only a very minimal increase in laser time. If we do another run, would you like to see it include them?

Thanks so much for the wedges--they work perfectly! And I LOVE the stand.
kderevanGlad to hear it! They get a lot more stable with the wedges, no joke.

I have had my 5-pen stand for several months and it is so reliably unstable and flimsy that I have had to stop using it. The very act of placing a pen in its cradle causes it to spill other pens out of their cradles. I gather it is possible to support stand with some wedges, and I would like to order this improvement, and will willingly pay extra for it.
WolffOnce this issue started to surface, I upgraded the design to include locking wedges that make it far, FAR more stable. They are available for free to anyone who purchased a stand, just email me at Komitadjie@gmail.com with your address, @Wolff, and I'll get some in the mail to you immediately. :) Thanks for being part of the drop the first time around!
The first release on here was the first time it'd gotten any real field testing beyond my own use, so the first release had some improvements that needed to be made. Thanks to you guys, I've been able to improve the design quite a lot into its present form.
Would love to eventually see a single-pen acrylic stand option instead of just the wood one!
I have a lot of clear/acrylic storage for my pens and art supplies so having a sleek one-pen stand would be fantastic. Maybe other people out there could be into it too. Thanks for taking a second to respond. Do you distribute/sell anywhere else or are you only on Massdrop? I'd love to direct people to where to buy your stuff even after the drop is over.
ChristinaLaurenI do have an Etsy as well, but these stands have largely been sold here. If you don't snag on this drop, don't worry, we're planning to re-run this one every couple months. :)
Feel free to email me on the Etsy, it'd be kinda tacky to put a link to another site right in here, I think! lol

I received my acrylic 5 pen holder and it looks great. Went together easily after I figured out how to get the paper off. It just needs some kind of shim in the back slots above the top tab to keep the back piece locked in place. When it is full of pens the weight makes it wobble because the parts go together so easily. Worth every penny.

Ok, since customer service isn't responding I'll post here and see what happens.....I originally joined the drop on 21March signing up for one wood 5 pen holder and the option of a single holder based on the description. I got confirmation from PayPal of a $35.18 charge authorization. All is great and I’m looking forward to getting my two holders one to hold 5 pens and one for a single pen.
Then the Drop ended and this is where the confusion begins as I received a notice of one single pen holder and a new price of $10.19 - I was rather taken aback by this as I had confirmation of what I wanted and authorization through PayPal. So I launched an email to Customer Service (and have exchanged several emails with them to no avail). I would have preferred to call and speak with someone in Customer Service, but am not sure how. I went to the discussion the day after launching my email to Customer Service seeing that the first post confirmed that the ORIGINAL description stated the drop was for the 5 pen holder in wood and everything else was an option. Then I saw the entry from XiKuang stating the description was wrong and has been changed. Again, I was confused since I was not notified by Massdrop that any changes had been made nor asked to confirm my order.
I admit I'm new to Massdrop and this is only my second drop (within a month of joining) but this isn’t a good business practice to make changes to my order and not notify me or be offered the option to cancel if the change is not acceptable. My last update from "NB" of Customer Service was on 28March and this is an excerpt: "I've sent a request to our operations team asking if we can adjust your order's options to include the 5 pen wood stand you've expressed your interest in. We are sorry this hiccup occurred and we're working quickly to amend your order." I sent another email yesterday asking for an update and nothing.....
I'm interested if others have run into this or similar issues. Thanks!

Thank you very much, Komitadjie! It's interesting you noting that the numbers changed so they did submit it, and by some miracle my transaction page now reflects both the single and 5 pen holder! So, I assume at this point I will be getting both. Still baffling that I have received no correspondence from Massdrop on the update to my order, very strange....
I'm looking forward to my new holders!
thomasaburnsGlad to hear it worked out! The box went in the mail this evening, heading to Massdrop for breaking up and re-shipment to all of you guys and gals. :)

I am impressed and grateful at the immediate response and offer of modification from Komtadjie regarding my stand's problem. Thank you!
WolffHey, glad we could get you squared away! They left in this morning's mail, you should see them mid-week. Let me know if that clears up the problem for you, if not I'll just replace the whole darn stand. :)

Not too thrilled with this. I ordered the 12 pen stand. Came with no assembly instructions. While assembling, the top-most pen support broke off completely. Also, two retaining tabs broke off during assembly. Feel like I wasted almost $45 on this. {:(

Hi! I'm sorry it's taken me so long to respond to you with the requested photos. Life kind of got in the way. Thanks for wanting to make this better.

You can see the broken tabs, actually on that side it's being held together by one tab. The second photo shows the broken tab and a crack in the bottom piece. The bottom photo is the broken upper pen support. So basically both sides have issues. Again, sorry for taking so long to respond, it took me forever to get around to taking the photos. Thanks for your help. {:)
ZbrosmomOuch! That did kind of come apart on you! Drop me an email with your address, and I'll send you one of the new, upgraded ones. Those points have all been strengthened thanks to your feedback. :-)
My email is earlier in this thread, but it's enough pages long now to be a pain to find.
