Does anyone know another board that's more solid that will fit inside this case? I ordered a replacement board that didn't work and the black plastic contacts just fell off for fun
I just put together my very first keyboard from scratch, bought the green ALT case, PCBA, light diffuser, stabilizers, switches, and keycaps separately and put them all together. I was so excited, had it working fine with my MAC, but decided to buy a different USB C cord to match my desk setup - big mistake. Bc I'm obviously a noob, I bought the wrong kind of cable, a USB C 3.1 rather than a 2. Plugging this into both of my keyboard's ports was another big mistake. My MAC wasn't responsive to the USB 3.1 cable, so I tried to plug in the previously working USB cable again and now this will also not connect. I tried reseting the keyboard via the pin hole in the back which hasn't worked. Tried flashing the modern firmware onto it again and got an error response saying it couldn't find a valid device port, even after trying to reset via fn+b and the pin hole. The keyboard's LED's still will not work, and keyboard buttons are unresponsive as well, though the orange light is still flashing so I know power is going to the keyboard. Did I short circuit the keys and LED's? Is there anything I can do besides buying a new PCBA and taking it apart all over again? Any help would be greatly appreciated!!
morspaHey there, do you think you can open up the keyboard and check to see if there are any obvious damage to the components on the PCBA? You can also take a few pictures and post it here so we can take a look as well.
My current PCBA constantly drops it's wired connection, sometimes multiple times a day, and I have to unplug and replug to 'fix' the issue. Has there been any improvements made to this new run to minimize the risk of this happening again?
Finally, one less empty shell of a keyboard lying around, THANK YOU for restocking!
Interesting/concerning thing I noted: My Drop Alt was a gift, purchased via Amazon in November 2021. The left USB port failed in May 2022. I had replaced the case, switches, and keycaps, but luckily still had all the original bits, so I was able to put it all back together to ship back to Drop for a replacement. Both the original and the replacement I received have red marker dots next to the left USB port on the PCB, which I would have never have seen if I hadn't swapped cases. I've only opened one of the two new PCBs that just arrived, but lo and behold: No red marker dot on the USB port. The replacement I was sent in June 2022 experienced the same failure as the original about a month ago. The inconvenience of the bad port doesn't outweigh the inconvenience of taking the whole thing apart to send it in again, and I purchased a spare PCB just in case, but is this a widespread issue? If so, what is Drop doing about it? Have design changes been made to this round of PCBs to prevent this failure?
Our first restock has sold out already, but we have more on the way. The run will go live again by early next week.
EDIT: Run is live again, 15% sold in a few hours. This run is expected to ship by end of next week, potentially earlier. The units are at the warehouse, just being transferred into the correct location.
