Product Description
The Drop CTRL High-Profile is just like the original CTRL, but now it  comes with a tall CNC-aluminum case that covers the switches. Machined  at a 6-degree angle, the case is ergonomically crafted for a natural  feel—and it’s quite a bit heavier than before Read More

Love it !
Just got my Drop barebones keyboard. I got some Zilents V2 (https://zealpc.net/products/zilents) 67g switches, and Ducky Pudding keycaps. The keyboard looks & feels amazing ! The only catch with the Zilents switches, is the plastic feet need to be clipped.
It's a chonky boy
I really like the high profile look where the switches aren't as exposed on my old keyboard that wasn't designed for modding. The aluminum frame is quite beefy, so it isn't going to move around allot. Hot swap switches mean that you save a lot of time because you don't need to solder. The hot swap motherboard is designed for 3-hole switches, so the Gateron Aliaz Silent switches I used required removing 2 plastic pegs. The socket is recessed, so there were multiple times where the soft metal leads of my switches curled in the recess instead of going in the socket. Using the tweezers from my iFixit kit allowed me to uncurl them from the sides and still use them. All in all, it's a solid keyboard which let me pick the parts I wanted. Since this is my first real custom keyboard, I am very happy with the process.

Feature Request: ISO models in popular languages, like DE and FR. Drop could be the only manufacturer worldwide of a high-profile hotswap keyboard in ISO format. Drop is leaving money on the table here.

Given the north facing switches, will this board work with the GMK Pulse cherry profile keyset?

OEM, DSA and SA are fine with north facing switches. Pretty good video about GMK and switch polarity https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Bh93sXRh4x4 Edit: Sorry, I had originally replayed to the wrong person, so had to fix it.

Would've ordered if it came in ISO.

@NotKermi I feel the same way, particularly since the rest of everything is getting here next month, and the board itself would take almost half a year to get delivered. A new drop started for the DROP Ctrl High Profile Barebones, and I noticed that the estimated shipping date is the same as ours even though ours was the previous run. I do not understand why an expired run would have the same delivery estimate as a fresh run, in my opinion this kind of defeats the purpose of timed runs if those who ordered earlier does not receive the product earlier. I really hope they will be able to bump up the shipping date.

We don't submit exact quantities for production after each pre-order. We'd never keep up. There is material lead time, manufacturing lead time, MOQs, etc. Rather, we've already ordered large quantities that will be produced in batches. If, for example, we have an incoming batch of 2000 units and one pre-order period only sees 1000 pre-orders, it makes perfect sense that the next 1000 pre-orders would have the same estimated ship date.

Thank you for your response. I can see what happened; and your response has cleared up my question. While I am not exactly thrilled about the wait time, I am hoping the quality of the product would be worth the wait and investment. Thank you sir, stay safe and have a great day.

I have to ask, as, I feel it would turn this into an even greater board. How come there is no holes for 5-pin switches? And, if we're on the track of making holes anyway, why no holes for optional PCB mounted stabs? I guess one would argue for hot-swapping purposes, but how often does one hot-swap stabs? (Versus switches.) And again, optional. I believe the plate cutouts for plate mounted would also work for PCB mounted? Edit: Also, why cutouts for switch-top removal on a hot-swap board?

Can anyone explain the whole situation where we are unable to use GMK keycaps on this board? Why is this an issue and will it affect any other aspects of the board and it's use?

It's the combination of the two. The Halo stems in Holy Pandas are slightly "too long" for the housing (Halo stems and Holy Panda housings were not designed to be used together), so the interference doesn't happen. But generally speaking, north-facing switches have this clearance issue with R3 Cherry profile keycaps.

Why is the barebones the only drop shipping in October? Is this a mistake? The rest of the kits say they are shipping around July.

Neilsporini would also like to know if this ship date is accurate or a rough estimate. has anyone had any experience with Drop shipping ahead of initially estimated shipping time?

Why does the board still not accommodate PCB mounted switches? It's just some extra holes, you don't even have to change the electrical layout.

i mean most people would want pcb mounted stabs, like screw ins etc so we dont have to deal with the annoying rattle these CTRL and ALT keyboards almost inevitably have

MOD switches are PCB mount only. Gateron (Zeal too), Cherry, Greetech, Kailh and such come as both plate and PCB. At the end of the day, PCB mount switches CAN be used with a plate and provide a further level of stabilization over just the regular clips that are used with a plate. And even accepting that you can mod PCB switches to place switches with a decent pair of dikes, what exactly is your argument against providing a PCB with the holes for PCB switches? It takes an extra few seconds when designing a PCB to include those cutouts. It's such an easy thing to include that it's silly not to these days...and certainly, I don't see why you would care beyond the fact that you just want to argue about something. <shrug> If however you're going to argue against PCB mounted stabs, you're outright wrong. Plate stabs rattle and are pretty annoying....speaking as someone with two DIY Phantom TKLs that only support plate stabs, they're bad. Really bad. And that's using authentic GMK plate mount stabs even.

North facing switches. Cut-outs for switch top removal... on a hotswap. That ugly plastic led strip around the case. It's like you specifically hired someone with brain damage to make this...

You see the squares in the plate that hold the switches? They should be perfect squares. The four cut outs on the sides are for allowing you to rip the top housing off while keeping the bottom housing soldered to your board. Since this is a hotswap board, you literally cannot rip the tops off, nor is there any reason to. The switches are less stable because of this, especially when you consider than its only 3 pin mounting on the pcb as well. It's a perfect storm of bad decisions.

wowremyI see, I was wondering why you singled this board decision, it's on all their boards. But of course concern is valid.
