Don’t skip the break-in period
Right out of the box, I plugged these in to a Schiit Vali with a NOS Mullard tube being fed by a Pro-Ject Pre-Box Digital S2: my initial thought was “Well, crap. That was a waste of money.” I wasn’t getting the impressive speed or soundstage other reviews rave about. And the mid bass was… muddy? Sloppy? Floppy. I did find them pretty darn comfy, though, so there’s that. Long story short: more than other headphones I’ve owned, these really need to settle in. I hung them up, hit shuffle, and came back a couple days later. Now: the soundstage is wide and quite open, the highs and mids are crisp and bright (I don’t hear the metallic edge in the highs others are reporting) and the bass has a decent fullness to it—but bass isn’t the star, here, so your preference will determine if that’s good or bad. Mid bass is still a bit wooly, but by comparison to pre-break-in, it’s much more refined. Overall, a fun, engaging headphone for the price. EDIT: the more I listen, the more I really enjoy this headphone. For this price its a seriously solid deal.
