So I just received my pair and honestly, I'm not impressed at all with the audio quality, especially for the price. I have it plugged into my computer (no amps or anything) and i'm wondering if there needs to be tuning in the windows settings or something? My old headset (hyperx cloud revolver) sound way better and clearer. Any advice would be appreciative.

MemeTheDreamCould be your motherboard just has shit audio so no matter what headset you plug into it will sound bad to you. Get an external dac/amp.

DiagonalSushilol Nah, like i said, my Hyperx cloud revolver sound great on my PC. I have thought about it, but i'm not sure i wanna spend the extra money on an dac/amp. I'll use it for a couple weeks and see how i'm feeling. Thanks for the help.

MemeTheDreamThe Hyperx I believe come with a 'sound card' and plug into usb so that's way differentthan plugging analog into your motherboard. You can always buy a dac/amp to test and return in if it doesn't work out IMO.

DiagonalSushiI actually own an older version of the Revolver (HK-HSCR-BK) which came with the older dongle. I tried it without the dongle and it sounded basically the same. I'll look into maybe buying an amp but I don't know, i don't really like the idea of dropping a lot of money on an amp, when i already dropped over $150 for headphones.

MemeTheDreamNGL I'm in the same boat as you, I'm coming from some plantronics 800XL or something like that and there wireless keep that in mind, and they sound about the same if not the plantronics one sound a bit better. I say a bit better because it's gets louder I never went past 50 percent volume on my plantronics pc38x 8 have at 100 always. Kinda dissapointed might use them a bit longer if not will most likely return.

Newb2keebsphileIf you have 100% volume and they are silent you either didn't push the jack into the headphones well enough or you simply need an AMP to drive them. This has been a thing with PC38X, they are rated at 28Ohm impedance but seem to not be that easy to drive as it seems. I'm still waiting on my headset to arrive and when I get it I'll test them by plugging them into my motherboard as well as dac/amp to see the result.

Newb2keebsphileKeep in mind the Plantronics wireless headset (or any wireless headset for that matter) will have a built-in DAC/amp that is probably superior to any laptop or computer motherboard. If you have an iPhone, I find that the cheap $9 Apple Lightning to 3.5mm Dongle is a great baseline for a decent output, punches above its price (though something like a Schiit Fulla 2, BlasterX G5, or GSX 1000 will sound better still). The PC38X (and PC37X) are on the level of Sennheiser’s HD 500 series audiophile headphones, they’re really good when fed well. The most common issue is when the cable isn’t plugged all the way into the source hack OR the headset’s jack... if it’s not all the way in, the contact point for only one of the channels is connected to both the right and left drivers of the headphone, effectively only getting half the amping power and adding a lot of crosstalk and grounding issues too. Definitely worth checking, and the easiest fix of all time ;)

MemeTheDreamSo the draw for this headset over others is a) you can use it without an amp/dac; b) good mic and audio quality in one device; c) they're open back while most other headsets (that is mic included) are closed back; and d) you can easily use them with both of the next gen consoles without any workaround or fuss. If you can't get the quality or volume you want without the amp/dac on PC...and you're 100% certain you have your settings and cables right...then this isn't the headset for you. IMO if you're going to buy an amp/dac you're better off getting a higher quality audio headset (I like the HD700s or HD650s) and a separate USB or XLR mic (I like Audio-technica). Unfortunately that's going to run you at least twice the cost of this headset alone for the mic and headphones. Then probably that much again for a mid-tier amp/dac combo. Or you can just buy all cheap stuff and be no better off than just using this headset.

DiagonalSushiYeah, the revolver appears to come with either a puck-shaped USB DAC/amp, or an extension cord with a puck-shaped thingie on the end. I wonder what Meme is plugging into, there are so many possible causes for this and we just can’t tell without more info ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ @FS_Capn Thanks for sharing your experience with the new generation of console controllers! Yeah, if a console controller can offer enough power for the PC38X, or a $9 smartphone dongle is enough (the Apple adapters are way better quality and sound than the DualShock 4, much clearer, but both get loud enough), then there’s probably something else going wrong.

NeonHavokI think you have two/three steps to troubleshoot. First, make sure the cable is plugged all the way into your PC38X headset and whatever you’re using as a source. If some of the rings on the plug have their connection bridged, you’ll get signal problems. Second, try plugging the PC38X into another source, like your phone or computer or just something different, to make sure it’s not your computer or a software glitch (usually when I hear my mic echo into the playback, it’s either a software glitch on my side, or more often a software glitch on someone else’s side). If you’ve tried the above and DEFINITELY isolated it as a headset issue instead of something easy to fix, then contact EPOS audio or Drop for tech support. By the way, I was just using my PC38X plugged straight into a Dual Sense controller (PS5) last night. Audio quality is noticeably upgraded from the DS4, still not the best but pretty good, plenty of power.

NeonHavokHuh, second headset with the same issue? Did it have that issue as soon as you opened the box? Vast majority of the time someone has the same issues twice in a row, it’s usually an environmental issue. When I worked at Apple, we saw that sort of thing all the time. But anyway, better luck next time, hope you don’t continue to have that issue with other headsets.

Evshrugyep, ive seen a bunch of forums with the "crosstalk/audio bleed" complaints recently, so like i really wanted this headset, but i guess ill have to go back to my headphone/modmic combo if they arent keeping the same quality as all theae reviews state.

NeonHavokBy the way, I think I have to clarify why I said crosstalk originally back in February… because I used it wrong. What I meant was that one side of the stereo sound plays in both ears, and then the ground wire is partially connected to one output too causing a short. Essentially, that’s from the different collars on the TRRS plug touching the wrong part of one of the jacks (headphone side or PC/source side). When other people hear their game audio through your microphone, or their voice echoed in your microphone, that’s physically unlikely to be from to the headphone, due to the arrangement of the pin out, and I have yet to hear of that issue when it’s not the PC or software’s fault. Which is why I recommended contacting EPOS, because they may know more software tips to help fix that than I do. I’m just dropping tips because it sucks when things aren’t working right, and my tips solve the most common issue and hopefully save people a lot of time.

Evshrugwell its like, not echoed it sounds like they are listening to a recording of themselves played back, like when i flip up the mic to mute it, it mutes me but still transmits any audio played through the headphones, so like it may be a jank audio jack but if its not then idk.
