I bought my panda with a Koss Porta Pro X and also have the HD-6XX and HE-4XX, with a THX 789.
Some months ago, the HYPE was huge. The first reviewers of the prototypes really make me want one. After a long wait, received mine, and... it was not all what I expected.
Pros:
Detailed sound with a good instrument separation;
A bit 'bass light';
Decent soundstage;
More comfortable in the pads than HD-6XX, but far (very very far) from Porta Pro X.
Off course, wireless
Cons
It feels heavy. The headband makes a considerable pressure and bothers me after half a hour using it;
My ears feels hot after a couple minutes (it’s not a problem with my HE-4XX, but I feel the same with the HD6XX).
For MacOS and iOS users:
There's no battery level indicator in the bluetooth menu in MacOS (like with airpods);
Couldn't use it's maximum bitrate with and iPhone, only on MacOS it supports AptX, but not HD;
The worst: There's no way of using wired without charging to 100% and consequently reducing the battery lifetime.
I didn't like it? No, I liked. But every review said ridiculous amounts of good things, and to be honest, I didn't hear any new things in songs than with my previous headphones. The Porta Pro X is 10x cheaper and I prefer using it than Panda with my computer. The HD-6XX has a far better soundstage (off course, is openback) and similar 'overall sound quality'.
The only thing that justifies Panda is PORTABILITY. Other than that, stick with your amp/dac combo.
SerpaduMany of the cons you've listed are not fair as they depend on the transmitter device's software/hardware, not the headphones.
The headphones support every codec up to LDAC, but the transmitter must support it too. Think it like USB devices, if you have a USB 3 flash drive but a USB 2 port, it will connect with USB 2 speeds, that is not the flash drive's fault.
Not sure about the battery indicator, try it with an Android device (one that has BT battery indicator) if it shows there, MacOS software might be the issue (don't quote me on that one tho)
ryangaston88 Yes, it is. It's like comparing an electric to a petrol car, or a bookshelf with a floorstanding speaker. They are not the same type, but have the same proposal, listen to audio. Of course I'm taking in account the limitations of each type and their target.
alesimulaI understand that, and not saying that it's pandas fault, but in my user experienced, somehow it affected me. After more time listening I'll update the review. The rating was not because my others devices incompatibility.
Serpadu> Couldn't use it's maximum bitrate with and iPhone, only on MacOS it supports AptX, but not HD;
Why would you list this as a con when macos doesn't support anything higher than aptX and iPhone doesn't even support that?
EcneHonestly, my 'low' rating is more from the lack of comfort and possibility to use usb audio without charging. Other than that, I would give it 4 stars.
MusicManRBI’ve never heard the Mobius, but it seems aimed for a different use than the panda. It’s more focused as a gamer headset, with motion tracking and audio processing.
For music, I’m almost completely sure that Panda will sound better, but for gaming, probably the Mobius is a better choice.
I’m not a gamer, so for me, besides the heavy weight, the choice is Panda.
hananiasamaanI’ve heard that the Mobius sound similar when changed to the “warm” eq setting? What do you think? Some have said these are better than the Mobius but no one really explains how sound wise.
MusicManRBI'll say this, if they're anything like Oppo PM-3 they are boring to listen to compared to most planars that I've had experience with. Personally, I loved the Mobius on the music setting and left it there no matter what I did.
SerpaduYou stated:
"The worst: There's no way of using wired without charging to 100% and consequently reducing the battery lifetime."
Is this true? I thought you could run these via 3.5mm off without any battery because it does not use the internal THX amps? Is that not true?
RegitEyeWith the 3.5mm connection you can use without charging, but then you’ll need an external amp and dac. If I want to connect to a power outlet system I’ll prefer to use my much lighter open back headphones. The ideia is to use the Panda with it’s own amp and without charging.
