Ultralight and easy to set up, the X-Mid 2P is our second collaboration with thru-hiker Dan Durston. With plenty of room for two, enjoying the great outdoors with a partner has never been easier.
Glad you're liking the tent. I'm not sure what you're observing when you say the fly is absorbent. It's got a waterproof coating on both sides so water should be beading on the surface and the actual material is polyester which is non-absorbent because it's hydrophobic (repells water). One of the major advantages of polyester is that it's not water absorbent (like most nylon tents) so the fly doesn't expand (sag) in the rain, nor gain water weight. Nearly all water can be shaken off, which makes it very fast to dry. Polyester won't absorb more than 1% of its weight in water, whereas nylon can absorb a lot more.

Hi, I dunno, it’s quite absorbent. Nothing leaked thru or anything but I had to pack it up wet & let it dry out in the sun when I got home. I do love the tent though. Was just thinking of applying DWR coating myself
I've only spent a few nights in it so far, but it does everything well. Good size for a 2P. Low weight. Easy to pitch. Packs small. I look forward to using this tent for years to come!
Spacious, light and easy to pitch if you follow Dan's video instructions.
Used for first time over 8 day trip in Tasmania, Australia. All kinds of weather and the tent performed beautifully in each situation. Paired with a custom cut Tyvek groundsheet.

Used a Klymit double mat and had heaps of room for our dry gear inside the tent. Oodles of room for packs in vestibules and the location of the vents meant safe indoor gas cooking when it was raining outside.
My partner is a nylon inner person and was concerned about the temp with mesh, but pitched low to the ground this baby is solid and doesn't let the wind in. Thus does increase the condensation factor but the angle of the walls means it runs rather than drips.
Bought this tent to take on an elk hunt in CO back in October. First day was great, but we got close to 18 inches of snow over night. The tent held up well to to the wind the snow. If you have never used a trekking pole tent before, definitely practice pitching this tent a few times before you hit the trail.
I bought this awesome tent to replace my trusty REI half-dome 2+. I do not regret my purchase :D
Pros:
fast pitch
lightweight
sexy
Cons:
pitch takes practice (especially on non-flat terrain)
delicate materials (compared to half-dome)
I would absolutely recommend this tent to a friend. The vestibules are huge, the inner is spacious for a tall dude like me, and the variety of pitching options (fly only, fly + inner) lends to one versatile tent. Just make sure to admire the factory pack-job because you will never see that type of precision packing w/ this tent again.
Bottom Line: This is a good forkin' tent. Buy it.
I purchased this tent because of the need for length (being 6'4") and wanted space for my dog when he comes along. It performs as advertised. Easy setup. I enjoy being able to pitch the fly in poor weather first, then the inner tent. I added a polyco footprint cut about an inch shorter than the bathtub footprint, to protect the bottom of the tent. It handles condensation well so far. My only issue is the large footprint, which has cause a compromise in pitching occasionally due to space limitations. Overall, I would certainly recommend this tent. I would consider a DCF version if offered.
