This is an excellent DAC/Amp combo with a range of options built into it that are in some cases geared more towards the pro crowd than your average headphone listener. It is very easy to use, the knob is a highlight, and the sound is excellent. With options like balance controls, crossover, high/low power modes, and different DAC filters, it can power most any headphone while providing ways to fine tune your listening. It can truly be the only device you need for your desktop setup (except, of course, for that fact that it lacks preamp outputs for powered speakers). I have used mine with the Grado Hemp, the Fostex TH-X00, Audioquest Nighthhawk/Owl, and various IEMs, all with good results. However, the price is debatable given the range of other DAC/amp combos available and what you are wanting. I am surprised there is no discount being offered. Even $50 would be nice.

nicdubHello what's your impression on this units with TH-X00? Sorry I have Denon D2000 which is not exactly the same but the driver behave similarly. So I'm wondering if it's worth it to get this or use the money to upgrade my headphone instead. Or like you said there's a lot of other DAC/AMP in this price range so there might be other units that match better. Thanks!

HydeI think it is a great match for the TH-X00 and suspect it would match well with the Denon, but never having heard the latter makes me hesitate to fully recommend it. It is a relatively neutral amp that does not impose itself on the headphone, so it won't change the Denon or make it sound significantly different. This is a nice review from the Absolute Sound: https://www.theabsolutesound.com/articles/grace-design-m9xx-dac/ You've probably seen this, but this link is to reviews on Head-fi (I found fjrabon's thoughts to be very insightful): https://www.head-fi.org/showcase/grace-design-m9xx-compact-usb-dac-with-integrated-headphone-amp.21038/

HydeI have had the m9xx for 5 years and I have the Fostex purplehears...a match made in heaven...every phone I have pairs nicely, Focal Elex, Sennheiser hd 600, Beyerdynamic T 90, HiFiMan Edition XX, HiFiMan HE 4xx, and more...the sound is warm, rich. The bass is clear fast and punchy, the treble smooth and the midrange beautiful. Those bashing this must not have ever heard it.

HydeIt is a beautiful piece of gear...its build quality is excellent, hefty and bulletproof...the sound is awesome...punchy, sparkly, refined, rich...I have used it daily for 5 years without a glitch...a sound that never fatigues...I listen all day...there are too many bashers here who have probably never even seen this unit in reality never mind heard it...

Waynereylol yeah I think I was previously conflicted between "TH-X00 sounds amazing with M9XX" vs "It's over priced just buy a Atom Dac/Amp or Schiit Heresy/Modi 3 instead" but like you said it most likely are coming from people who have never heard the M9XX so they're just recommending based on measurements. Which seems scientific but nothing beats hearing it in person. As I mentioned have tube amp coming in already, but if it this doesn't work out I'll definitely give this a shot. :)
