Is the S/PDIF the only difference between this and the M9XX?

Anyone know if this is worth using as just DAC and hooking it up to a Darkvoice amp?

nottheseappleshope no one buys this, what a blatant cash grab with much more better options for what they charge...
OnePunchManGasp, people who make products are trying to turn a profit... you don't say. Why do you give a flying monkey toss if anyone buys this?

The placement of that knob on top is not ideal, it prevents you from stacking this unit or putting it into the shelf.

rumata13No real reason to stack it. It's a contained unit. The shelf can be an issue but for it's intended use I personally love the top knob.

This is an excellent DAC/Amp combo with a range of options built into it that are in some cases geared more towards the pro crowd than your average headphone listener. It is very easy to use, the knob is a highlight, and the sound is excellent. With options like balance controls, crossover, high/low power modes, and different DAC filters, it can power most any headphone while providing ways to fine tune your listening. It can truly be the only device you need for your desktop setup (except, of course, for that fact that it lacks preamp outputs for powered speakers). I have used mine with the Grado Hemp, the Fostex TH-X00, Audioquest Nighthhawk/Owl, and various IEMs, all with good results. However, the price is debatable given the range of other DAC/amp combos available and what you are wanting. I am surprised there is no discount being offered. Even $50 would be nice.

It is a beautiful piece of gear...its build quality is excellent, hefty and bulletproof...the sound is awesome...punchy, sparkly, refined, rich...I have used it daily for 5 years without a glitch...a sound that never fatigues...I listen all day...there are too many bashers here who have probably never even seen this unit in reality never mind heard it...

Waynereylol yeah I think I was previously conflicted between "TH-X00 sounds amazing with M9XX" vs "It's over priced just buy a Atom Dac/Amp or Schiit Heresy/Modi 3 instead" but like you said it most likely are coming from people who have never heard the M9XX so they're just recommending based on measurements. Which seems scientific but nothing beats hearing it in person. As I mentioned have tube amp coming in already, but if it this doesn't work out I'll definitely give this a shot. :)

I keep hearing this match TH-X00 perfectly, some people even wonder if TH-X00 were tuned to these. I have a D2000 I wonder if it would also match well. But as others mentioned at the price range the competition is fierce so wonder if there's other better choices for cheaper.

Are those dual 1/4" single-ended jacks? I'm confused.

One of my boys bit the bullet. It doesn’t sound any better than even my portable dac amp fiio q1mk2. And my liquid spark & topping E30 sound better. Clarity wise . Everything sounds “cleaner” “clearer” I’m a audiophile noob but my boy had buyers remorse after hearing my equipment and got rid of it.
