If you saw Maverick from Top Gun walking down the street, he may very well be wearing the Helgray Hornet. Inspired by 1980s fighter jets and pilots, the Hornet is bold, durable, and overbuilt Read More
The watch looks good but a $300 MSRP for a 10$ Miyota quartz movement sounds like a rip-off to me. Even at 200 bucks i'd get something else.
If you like the cushion-case, just get a Seiko new-turtle.
Original design from a brand respected for its quality selling a watch with about the same margin as other microbrands using automatic movements is not really what I would call "high price tags". Sure, you can get cheaper catalogue pieces from brands who are just out to make money, but where's the fun in that?
I did a review of this watch (see link below). I know people are saying this watch isn't worth it, because it has a Miyota quartz movement that can be found for ~$10. But you still have to manufacture a case, straps, crystal, etc.. To me, it's not always about the best mechanical movement. I bought this watch, because it is a quartz and my plan was to use it as a beater that I could rely on. No winding, no worrying about scuffs, and crystal clear dial. So far, it has lived up to my expectations. I did a youtube review of it here:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SjD6u9Gh7_Y Overall, if you are looking for a reliable, durable, watch with crystal clear dial, and the added perk of the rotating inner bezel for dual time zones, I would say $199 is worth it. Just my take.

WatchRamblerNice review. Had my eyes on this watch many times before because I really like this watch design. Unfortunately I shifted my collection more towards mechanical/automatic watches as I just hate replacing batteries... Never checked it, but if there was automatic version of this model I would buy it for sure.
As a pilot, I've wanted a watch that was very easy to read, with also a secondary reading for Zulu time. Citizen's pilot watches are too complicated. This watch is the style I'm looking for, at the right price, however lacks Zulu time. The Tactico TC3 that others have shown is just about exactly what I'm looking for, however at 1,200 euros, way more than I want to pay. So, what I'm asking of you, the community, is where can I get a nice analog watch that is clear, displays zulu time, and is a reasonable price?
your welcome, I am a fan of GMTs, I have an ETA 2893-2 watch I wear most every day that I find handy to track when my friends and family are traveling. When I travel myself I use a modified Seiko SKX007 w/ a 12hr Bezel or a digital Casio GWM5600 with push a button World Time feature, some day I'll get a "True GMT."

ZircemeraldNot sure if you're a WUS member but there's a Tactico TC3 GMT Limited Edition for sale by a member right now for a very solid price. He started by asking for $900 and is already down to near $600. I'd jump on it myself but just bought a watch within the last ten days.

Nah. Heard/read too many comments on Helgray's lack of quality. There should be a drop for this Tactico watch, which is similar in design, but superb quality overall (movement, finishing, materials, etc): http://www.tacticowatches.com/styled/styled-2/photos-5/index.html
ElmeroThe Tactico is indeed better quality, but it is also at a different price point. It is at least double in price. Tactico often sells out of their limited edition watches and not likely want to give much of a discount.
The helgray is actually very good value and quality for the price point. I have mine since KS launch with no fuss. The finish is good, the movement is solid, the design unique and very attractive in person. Since the seconds hand is on its own dial, you don't notice the jumpy quartz movement, a big plus for me.
MezzYou're right. Maybe it wasn't fair to compare. Still, at double the price, you get a limited (numbered) edition, much better materials, an infinitely better movement (Swiss ETA Automatic) very well built. So viewed from that perspective, the Helgray seems overpriced to me.
You say Tactico is not likely to "want to give much of a dicount". That, I don't know. I know there was a drop for the top of the line TC3 (1200 EUR from Tactico) but missed it, so I don't know what the drop price was (hence, how much discount Tactico gave).
kstokley219$ for a watch with a miyota quartz movement I find it still expensive... When you, for exemple, compare it to the Vostok Europe Limo of a previous drop at 199$ with an automatic GMT movement vostok 2426 you just think "is that a joke?"
SpofasI own this specific watch. It is actually pretty nice, nothing shoddy about it. The strap in not at the same level of the watch, but that is very common with these microbrands. Mine has been working with no problems what so ever since I bought it on its release day.
