The designers at KBT put a lot of thought into their keyboards. From the mechanical switches to the two layer PCB, each detail is thought through Read More
Here is a good tip for mechanical noobs like me that I found on various forums. I guess most in here already know this, but for those that don't...

If your coming from a laptop or another lower profile membrane keyboard then you might find the key travel to be too far on this keyboard. There are two solutions that I know. The probably most correct solution is to learn the activation point of the keys and don't bottom out, i.e., get used to it.

Unfortunately, you've been trained to bottom out for years. The faster solution is to install some o-rings under the keys. I found the difference to be amazing. The shorter key travel feels more natural to me. Aside from me typing better, it also makes the keyboard a bit quieter, which you probably would like since you bought browns.

To do this you'll need a keycap puller [1] and some o-rings [2]. You can get more expensive rings that are marketed to be specifically for mechanical keyboards, but many have bought the o-rings I have linked to and seem to be just as happy with them as I am. O-rings have specs, such as width, inner diameter, and hardness that you might want to research before making a decision.

I'm only using one ring per post, but some initial testing shows that this keyboard will accept two of these rings per post. The stopping point was just below the tactile bump and activation point of the brown switch. I only tested this on one key, but it seems it should be true for all of the keys. You'll need to grab two bags of o-rings if you want the option to lower the key travel even more.

Edit: Don't use more than one ring. I used the extra rings on the main (alpha) keys as a test and found that the travel reduction was so close the activation point that it was unreliable for some keys.

Happy keyboarding.

[1] http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00AZCGF7K
[2] http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0051XWXCE
Check to see if the retention bar underneath is properly secured. Sometimes during shipping they can come lose as they aren't the thickest of metal pieces and they cover the entire length. All you have to do is lift the key off its cap, and tilt it back to reveal the retention bar. It should simply just hook into the spacebar and snap into the board underneath. Just don't pull it too hard when taking it off.
I would say my space bar is now of the normal mushy cherry-mx-stabilizer variety! It rebounds near instantly now and has a slight mushy feel that I can imagine would be a "common complaint" among new users, but very easy to get used to.

I wasn't sure where to find the products you mentioned locally, but I found and used DuPont Teflon Silicone Lubricant [1] at Lowes [2]. I used the small liquid 4oz bottle. It isn't a grease, but it seemed to do a good job. I used an artists brush to lubricate the metal bar as you described. I also lubricated inner sides of each stabilizer block and, on the space bar itself, the outer side of the stabilizer insert cylinder on each side.

Edit: In case it helps others, I also meant to mention: After I applied the lube and re-inserted the space bar, I still had a sticking problem - a bit different than before. This time it was worse when pressing on one side than pressing on the other side. I realized that I didn't use enough pressure to press both sides of the space bar all the way down evenly. I think I still needed the lube, but ensuring both sides are all the way down would probably be the first thing to check for a sticking problem. I imagine this might be true for any of the larger keys that have stabilizers.

Thanks again for all the help.

[1] http://www2.dupont.com/Consumer_Lubricants/en_US/products/silicone.html
[2] http://www.lowes.com/pd_363779-39963-DS1004101_0__
Jibbers42imagine the fact that some space bars on some keyboards actually will dip overboard if you press the sides hard enough...talking about design failurre
Hey all, got mine in today and all seems good except the space bar. It's my first mechanical, so I'm not sure what to expect. The space bar seems mushy and doesn't rebound quickly. It does come up, but it takes a fraction of a second longer than I expect and causes me to mistype and slow down.

Is this a common issue? Is it fixable? I hate to try to return it, since they don't have stock. Thanks for any ideas.

Edit: I just messed with it some more and the space bar seems to take between near instant and 250ms to come back up, sometimes up to 500ms. The varying rebound time seems random and throws off my flow.
They keyboards just cleared customs, and they are now on their way to the Massdrop fulfillment center!

We should have everything out of the door first thing next week.

Thanks for your patience guys!

lyrill@lyrill

Sharp eyes :)

This picture is actually of the one box that came into our office from the same shipment from KBT. Figured I'd include a picture just to spice the post up a little.

The ten other boxes from the same shipment for this group buy cleared the custom at the same time, but are still in transit heading to our fulfillment center.
Hello Everyone,
Congratulations on another successful group buy!
We've been in contact with KBT and they let us know that we literally cleared out their entire warehouse (resulting in a shortage of these for the next two months)! Pretty damn impressive.
We've placed the order and expect it to arrive at our fulfillment center and be shipped out within 14 business days.
Thank you for your participation and patience!
Sincerely,
Daniel
So are we just waiting indefinitely for the someone to order one and replace the guy that cancelled?

Edit - "Status: Order enroute to Massdrop fulfillment center "
