Because saving the planet is not such a bad idea. Some might go as far as saying we kinda really need to stop using so much plastic. <rolling eyes>

Reduction of trashing the earth is wise.
In my purse, I carry a knife, spoon, and fork, at least one shopping bag, and often bring cloth napkins. I don't use straws often anyway, so I haven't had the need to buy one.

I so wanted to like these, I got annoyed with all the plastic landfill.
The problems I have with them:
1) Drinking ice smoothies would conduct the cold brilliantly... making the outside too cold and wet with condesation.
2) Chipped teeth.
3) Walking and stumbling while using these... a metal rod into the back of your throat... and thoughts of my children falling while using one?
So I rarely use them, and for other times just stick with compostable plastic straws.
Not that I need straws, it's just those smoothies and my beard... don't mix.

Definitely will look for longer straws are gr8 for bushwacking in the woods and sipping a liquid...

WadoeWardellCountyComm has a yet larger diameter Ti straw. The Poseidon. As a fire starter I like it best. Also excellent for large volume sipping. Picked up a couple to try next to the Unique pieces. 10$ apiece. Too big for some, but I feel they are an excellent bit of kit.

I bought the bent ones from amazon(I think) and they're great straws. Very solid feeling in hand, you could probably drive one into something or someone if you really had to. I've bought other reusable metal straws and they all had a metallic taste where as these don't seem to at all. Anyway, I just ordered the large straws hoping they're big enough for boba

The figure of "500 million plastic straws used a day in the US" is actually an estimate...that came from a 9 year old. True story.
