This is the second time I have purchased this set. There is not anything in my house, backpack, or EDC bag that I cannot sharpen with this. It is a bit heavier in my backpack than I would like (but what isn't?), but its size is fairly compact. It takes a bit of practice to learn to use the set proficiently. NOTE: Do not lend this set; it matters not how close the friend.

JoJoWalkerI just want to share this piece of advise my father gave me. "If you lend something to a friend, just assume that you're giving it to them beforehand. In the end, they probably are not in a place to replace it if they lose or break it, and when the chips fall you would rather have a friend than a material item."

My second set...first disappeared during a move to new home. Deployed twice to Middle East and was constantly sharpening others knives. Probably sold hundreds when we got back home. It is not a Wicked Edge system but much more portable in combat. I own three Now.

This system takes a lot of patience to understand and operate. I'm still wondering if I should be holding the knife handle or the clamp while sharpening, They provide honing oil but in the manual it shows not to use honing oil with diamond hones. If you're not reading the instruction, you won't catch that. That said, if you aren't prone to reading instructions, it's not likely you're reading this review.

Fantastic system for sharpening all different types of knives!
Lansky has been a major player in systems for knife sharpening and this one has been around for quite a long time for a good reason; it makes the whole process very simple and easy to approach. If you don't have multiple bench stones to sharpen your knives on and need a system that is easy to set up and tear down quickly without breaking the bank, then enter the Lansky Sharpening System. I dropped the "Deluxe 4-Stone" because this "system" is available in non-diamond stones and there is also ceramic and a leather strop available. Overall I appreciate how quickly I can put a knife in the clamps and get it sharp without guessing on the angle of the blade due to the sharpening guides in the system. I've recommended this system to multiple friends and family and quite a few people that use their EDC fixed blades and folders for actual work and so far no one has complained or given negative feedback. If you want a simple, elegant system, I'd start with this one and get the components that work for your work load.

I have an older Lansky with the regular stones that have been worn down over the years. But the clamp is stout and solid, not cheap and thin like this new one. I like the diamond stones so I'll be using the new stones with my old guide. 5 stars for the stones, but 1 star for the flimsy new guide.

For the price, which was a little high, I would expect a ceramic or super fine hone, which is available but not offered here. It sharpens OK. The rougher stones are pretty rough, and would be good for dull axes or pot metal knives. The smoother stones are good for kitchen knives, but I will not use them on my EDC pocket knife. Not a winner

It kinda works but the scrach patter is huge aven on the fine steel. I never could get the knife to fit right in the jig, I even bought the clamp stand for it and still no luck. I use the freehand on axes and other really rough stuff, I would not recommend for knifes.

JacobAI had a like experience. Now it was a smaller knife with steep v-grind. The guide would not stay on. Brought out my 30-year old Lansky Deluxe and the guide stayed on the same knife without issue. The new guide is cheep cast material, the old was milled - much better quality.

Cheaply made. The clamping device is hokey and after two uses one of the stones came off its base.
