Packing a whopping 19 tools into a 4.25-inch frame, the Leatherman FREE P2 is like having a full toolkit at your disposal—only it fits in a pocket. Among the P2’s strongest assets are the combination blade, pliers, spring-action scissors, wire cutters, bottle and can opener, and a host of different screwdrivers. All that is to say, if a problem arises, the P2 is a sure bet to handle it. Made with a grippy stainless steel body, its tools lock in place and are operable with just one hand. The design is the result of years of customer feedback and testing, culminating in a compact piece that maximizes functionality. Of course, it comes backed by Leatherman’s 25-year guarantee as well.

A mechanical engineer by trade, Tim Leatherman was always good with tools. But it wasn’t until a budget trip to Europe in 1975—when he had to constantly fix his old Fiat—that he realized just how lacking some could be. Upon returning home to Oregon, Leatherman began designing a tool that could fit in a pocket and tackle any job that came his way. After years of refinement (and unsuccessful business pitches), he finalized the design for the Original Leatherman Pocket Survival Tool: a mini toolkit built into a 5-ounce, 4-inch frame. The success of the PST laid the groundwork for dozens of tools to come, and paved the way for the pocket multi-tool’s rise to popularity. Today, all Leathermans are produced in Portland, Oregon; tested in the mountains and rivers of the Pacific Northwest; and backed by a 25-year guarantee.
