You guys should know these monitors are not true 4k. A true 4K image (4096x2160) has an aspect ratio of 1.9:1, while a true UHD image (3840x2160) is 1.78:1. These monitors are not 4k.

Seriously guys, I want to like massdrop. I think the idea is amazing..
But this is a 2.7% discount for waiting an extra month as opposed to just buying it with free shipping from anywhere else.
You guys gotta do better than this!

I'm not defending them but you have to include taxes on the Amazon one as well. For me it would be around 55 dollar difference but I get 5% back on my Amazon credit card so it would kinda balance out

pwnermanGet it from beach then, or Walmart. It's the same price shipped through them as well And it's likely one of the retailers won't be in your state.
Legally your supposed to pay the taxes at the end of the year anyways ;)

Oh. US shipping only. Again. Of course. I wonder why massdrop is even available outside US, 90% of drops are US only.

WARNING: 2016 MacBook Pro users!!!
I did quite a bit of research on this display before purchasing, but some details were not clear to me before the display arrived. One of the main reasons I bought this display was the advertised convenience of using a single USB-C cable to send video signal to the monitor while simultaneously charging my MBP. However, THIS FUNCTIONALITY DOES NOT WORK FOR THE 15" 2016 MACBOOK PRO.
When connected via a single USB-C cable, the charging icon is displayed over the battery in the MBP's status bar as if it is charging...but clicking the battery icon for more details reveals a "Battery not charging" message. When I discovered this, I began searching to see if anyone else had encountered the same issue. I wasn't able to find any similar reports (early-adopter problems), but more importantly, there was no documentation on the power rating for the USB-C port on this display — not on LG's website or anywhere else. I found this odd considering the fact that the all-in-one USB-C functionality was advertised as a key feature of this product. Eventually, I found my answer on Apple.com while reading about the power delivery capabilities of the LG UltraFine 4k Display (https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT207447) — a different display, but THERE IT WAS:
"The UltraFine 4K won't fully power 15-inch MacBook Pro from 2016 and later, which requires 85W. If you try to power your 15-inch MacBook Pro through the display, your notebook's battery will be utilized during times of heavy activity. To fully power your MacBook Pro and charge its battery, connect your 15-inch MacBook Pro to its Apple 87W USB-C power adapter when you use it with the UltraFine 4K."
A call to LG support confirmed my findings: THIS DISPLAY CANNOT CHARGE THE 2016 15" MACBOOK PRO. In the end, a real bummer, but not necessarily a deal-breaker for me. I just wish there had been some sort of documentation on this before I made my purchase.

Side note 1: this display should have a USB-C to USB-C cable in the box. Mine was missing. If you don't receive one either, LG support should be able to send you the one you are owed.
Side note 2: the USB-C cable that came with your MBP does not support video, so you won't be able to use it with this monitor.

UPDATE: LG has added a note on the product page for the USB-C charging limitations of this display. It is at the end of the text beneath the "All-in-One Connection" section on this page: http://www.lg.com/uk/monitors/lg-43UD79

SchmexyTN panel, TV Tuner, “Motion Enhancements”, significant input lag, HDMI inputs only, 1 input at a time, no RGB color calibration, etc = TV
Size has nothing to do with it. :)

levifigAlso most monitors are'nt HDCP 2.2 compatible, which means you can't stream 4k video through netflix, amazon (and I think playstation)
Is there a >= 100 Hz version of this monitor? I'd be interested.

For many games one can hit pretty solid frame rates (Diablo III, StarCraft II, LOL,...). It is only the latest AAA titles that have trouble. Personally, I prefer 1440p right now. Perhaps at 42" it matters, but at 27" I cannot even tell the difference. Also, you should be turning off many setting (such as anti-aliasing) when gaming at 4k. You are not going to be seeing any jaggies at that resolution. Again, I could be wrong for such a large monitor though.

SkipPpAt this size, AA is nice. And yeah, of course those games look ok. They were made by Blizzard to be optimized for mid-low end systems, as with all Blizzard games. If you're looking for stellar graphics, you're looking in the wrong place with Blizzard. Don't get me wrong; they are extremely fun, but they don't push any boundaries. My assumption of the type of person that cares about 4K or 120Hz, also cares about top-notch graphics. But hey, to each their own.

There's a critical issue with that monitor: weird spatial low frequency backlight PWM flicker (even on 100% brightness). Some aren't sensitive to that, but for me the monitor is unusable. See picture. On the official site at this moment it's declared "flicker safe" in specs, but obviously it isn't. I don't know if they go and make rev.2 of this monitor with DC-controlled backlight, but that horrible PWM flicker in 2017 is a joke.

Honestly, I joined the drop and then backed out after checking Massdrop's return policy. I don't think I'd ever buy a monitor without having a fully covered return option, especially not for only 10% off… If the discount was more significant (20%+), I would probably be willing to deal with it… ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
