A larger, more powerful version of the popular Lumintop Tool AAA, this one runs on a 14500 battery (which is included) and pumps out up to 550 lumens. Made with an anodized aluminum body, it features three modes, all of which can be cycled through by clicking the base Read More
The Tool AA has 3 modes, H/M/L 550 lumens is only possible with a Li-Ion 14500 battery. The lumen output/runtimes per battery type is as follows:
14500 550( 0:45)/95(4:00)/8(28:30)
Alkaline 110(1:45)/25(11:00)/7(36:25)
NiMH 120(2:55)/25(11:40)/7(30:30)
Per Lumintop's website: http://www.lumintop.com/tool-aa.html
No strobe/SOS mode. I don't own a tool AA, just a tool AAA. If the modes are the same, it will start on medium, then cycle to low, then high, then back to medium. No memory. I would have preferred it with a deep pocket clip and high CRI, but all in all, for the price, a very nice light.
MkdufferFwiw AA Tool in not offered w High CRI LED option afaik
and
I read here that it has visible PWM

Im a big fan of the AAA version in High CRI. It has NoPWM. Unfortunately the AA version is not the same.
Just a heads up, Amazon selling AA 2.0 for $17.99 - 20% coupon =$14.39 free shipping with Prime! Does not include 14500 battery per this drop. I'm not bashing MD, I buy a lot from here but you have to do your research to ensure you are getting the best possible deal. Sometimes it's impossible to compete with Jeff's monster child! LOL
CpowCorrect, it does not include the 14500 battery as I mentioned in my original comment. The coupon has expired and is no longer available. I bought two of the Tool 2.0 for $28.78 shipped (already received). I was not making an "apples to apples" comparison, I was merely offering an additional option for anyone interested.
monkeycStopped buying things from massdrop when I realised they just started scamming members and running misleading drops and saying sorry! no refunds! Most drops can be had cheaper elsewhere or superior products bought off the shelf.
Couple of things:
If you order this on Amazon, it comes with two tailcaps; one push button, one magnetic twist cap. It also comes with a silicon diffuser, and is $2 cheaper than here. Also, it can put out 550 lumens, bit not with a AA, you need a 14500 battery to get maximum output. With a AA, it only puts our about 150 lumens.
Looks like the the Tool AA 1.0 which you guys have probably figured out has been surpassed by the Tool AA 2.0 that is available at that place for $17.99...
Wow. $32 shipping to Australia. I just joined the 2 in 1 bottle drop and am getting 2 of those shipped for $10.25. This is nuts..and i have(had!) been waiting for an AA torch drop.
