Totally forgot about it until I came home from work today. Saw the big box sitting in front of my door, HAPPY FRIDAY! Went out to dinner, got back and enjoying every bit of it for the past hour! Can't wait till it's broken in.

EdwgI envy you, you are so lucky to own such a setup and especially the HD650 headphones. I am myself waiting patiently for the next drop for these highly regarded headphones.

BubbleChamberIs that an iphone... 4? Do you just use it for apps like spotify? I mean, is it a dead phone that you use solely for audio stuff. Like a touchscreen mixer? Really good idea to use an old phone for that imo.

DrKayto be honest the Philips 9500 sound remarkably close. and for less than $100 (newegg/amazon and free 2 day shipping) make them an unbeatable deal.

smallbitYep, that's an iPhone4. I am using it as a DLNA client. Also listen to spotify, pandora, amazon music. Using the dock as a digital device to transfer signals bit by bit to the DAC. Those docks are dirt cheap nowadays, they work with any old devices using the 30 pin connectors; iPhone, iPad, iPod...

EdwgActually the K702 with the Cardas Fat Pipe is fairly close too. I think one is better than the other for particular types of music.

EdwgDo you think any particular genre of music would speed up the progress?

DrKayIf you don't mind buying used, there are tons of pre-owned HD650 out there going for around $200.

BubbleChamberhonestly, i am not too sure. I have heard that people use 'pink noise'. I typically use a good range of music at a moderate volume.

DrKayAbout the 9500 vs. HD650. Absolutely, and they are easier to drive (less powerful amp required). I have upgrade the pads and cable. to be extremely critical, the highs can be a little bright on the philips, however I am not sure if that is me trying to justify my more expensive cans.

DrKayI think Philips + the fiio Q1 (nice to have the bass boost) for less than $130 (from amazon) is the best budget audiophile deal I can think of.
