Just got these in the mail... and HOLY CRAP. I've heard a TON of headphones (HD6xx, E-Mu Teaks, Fostex TH900, Beyer DT880, and the list goes on.) These are BY FAR the best sounding headphones I've ever heard. There is no comparison... Hats off to Koss for making these happen at $500. Absolutely the best $500 I've spent on audio equipment.

bootynuggetElectrostat has a habit of doing that :) I auditioned the Stax L 300 and L 700 next to Sennheiser HD 820 / 800, Hifiman HE 1000, Grado P2000e Pro Series etc. and the Stax stood way out in front of the others in terms of raw sound realism and power. I was listening to a live concert recording and it sounded like I was there. Wide raw sound in your face sound is how I can describe it. It's legendary. Dynamic and planar headphones are much smoother and detailed though, so those might be better for games and movie content though, but for music electrostatic is way up there. Although I would always recommend people to physically go to a high end audio store and audition a range of headphone types, brands, and price points to see what they like. It really is a subjective and individual choice in terms of preference and value perception at the end of the day.
