Product Description
Designed by Jack of OLKB, this set of keycaps features slim legends and acute angles to complement ortholinear keyboards like the Planck and Preonic. Made up of neutral/monochrome white and gray, the set naturally pairs with popular ortholinear boards Read More
I know what you mean about having to look down at my fingers, but I’m the opposite. Very proficient on the numeric keypad, but sometimes hit the wrong key - or two keys simultaneously - using non-home-row alphas. Took some adjustment time when I switched to ortholinear - 1 to 2 weeks - but now my alpha errors are few and far between.
I could never learn to touch-type on a regular keyboard with Qwerty. Bad habits that formed from a mixture of not having formal lessons, and then banging up a few fingers (and then taking those fingers out of typing while recovering) really had me typing poorly, though I could type about 54wpm. Tried Dvorak, but I still couldn't get used to which finger belonged on each key. Got a Planck/Ortholinear board, and I think there's so much more sense to the grid layout. I practiced memorizing the Dvorak layout while waiting for the board, and it only took me about two days of typing to have it memorized, and I began to type faster than 10wpm. My fingers I never used got pretty sore those first days, needing to be used regularly, but overall, touch-typing Dvorak on a Planck is so much more comfortable than my old ways. :)
As for cleaning your board, I'd recommend blowing it out with compressed air, and then, the damp cloth would be fine, but cotton-swabs with some weak rubbing alcohol would be fine too I think. Others here can recommend better ways. On mechanical boards, you can remove all the caps, and put them in a bowl of warm water with denture-cleaning tablets, and let them soak in that. Seems to be the favorite method among keycap enthusiasts. :)
JohnDerpWhich rows would it include? 1-4 or 2-5? I guess 2-5 because spacebar?
EIDT oh ok stupid me, it says it right on the pic. The base set would be 2-3-4-4 then. So the bottom 2 rows should be interchangeable.
Nice set, and awesome that it is specifically for Ortholinear boards. Could this mean there is another Preonic drop coming up?
Good there are no MOQs, but too bad their are no price drop points. Means no Massdrop spreadsheet, which means no graphs. ( °︵° )
This is amazing Jack!
Killer price and killer looking set. Instant buy for a few of my Plancks (Beep beep boop! ;) and Preonic. I really think this sets encapsulates the simplicity of your keyboards well.
I went around a bit differently since I used sdothum’s ergo layout as a starting point.
That said, I would definitely follow @Mr.AnnoyingKnowItAll ‘s example if I would use a more traditional layout.
This is how I did it (note that Å and å are available when right shift is pressed).
This must be the best keycap drop for the Planck I've ever seen. Very cheap basic set, none of the lull-lull of having to buy a 59% set and then extras to fit on a 60% keyboard or a Planck which often drives the price up to $90 or more and shipping for approx. $5 to Europe. And, the best thing of all - you can choose to remove the base kit alltogether and only buy e.g. the blank kit! Incredible!
@jackhumbert How thick will these keycaps be? Could you upload some pictures (especially of the underside with e.g. a banana for scale) once you get your hands on a sample set?
Thank you for this drop! Now comes the time to choose which set(s) to buy...
