The Preonic keyboard has taken the mech keys community by storm. Designed with a programmable ortholinear layout, it allows for maximum efficiency—and the colorful anodized aluminum case and dye-subbed PBT keycaps make for a super-durable build. While the keyboard already provides plenty of opportunity for customization, with the Massdrop x OLKB Preonic Utility Kit you can take things to another level. Whether you want to add LEDs, DIP switches, or Qwiic connectors, or you want to experiment with Bluetooth add-ons, the kit has you covered. See below for more details on what’s included.
Note: At checkout, you’ll have your choice of anodization color for the CNC expansion case (+$55). You will need this updated case for all the components to fit on your Preonic keyboard.
To take advantage of the Preonic’s new PCB, this comprehensive kit allows for expanded functionality with footprints for things like LEDs, DIP switches, power adapter plugs, Qwiic connectors, and more. First, the kit comes with 10 RGB LEDs. Pair them with an acrylic case to let the underglow really shine. Additionally, there’s a 4-channel DIP switch for toggling layouts; a 2-pin JST-PH connector for Bluetooth applications; a 4-pin Qwiic (I2C) JST-PH connector that functions with Sparkfun’s Qwiic system for external PCBs; a rotary encoder to control volume, brightness, and more; and a 6-pin male/female header for DIY projects. You can also grab the Preonic Extension Case for cutouts that allow all of these components to fit through.
