I just got the 58x's, I'm powering them through my smsl m3 and it sounds really bloated. I'm coming from an m40x's and i consider their bass to be more than sufficient. Is my unit defective or is it just me?

AddisonKTry this mod if you think the bass is bloated. It is really easy to do and gives the HD58x a more neutral sound. https://diyaudioheaven.wordpress.com/headphones/measurements/brands-s-se/hd58x-jubilee-massdrop/

scunazYea, I did this mod and they definitely sound less bloated. I still feel like some clarity is still missing on these headphones on some songs, I might splurge for a HD 600 in the near future :P

AddisonKfew things i did to gain clarity with the HD 58X was...
  1. felt circle over the driver mod
  2. burned them in with grey, white, pink and blue noise for over 300 hours (when sleeping or not home)
  3. EQed them (helped alot) used HD-660s EQ recommendation on this list https://www.reddit.com/r/headphones/comments/9o2f5n/psa_oratory1990s_list_of_eq_presets/?st=jnogytxy&sh=e36c15ed
they now sound clearer, cleaner with very accurate imaging in games and music. the sound stage is very close/intimate and in-between your ears pretty much but the imaging is very precise. I was kinda worried about the sound stage being so intimate but i am in love with the imaging being so accurate and clean. before I did the mod and these things the bass and mid bass would mix together and overlap causing a muddy and inaccurate sound reproduction, but now they are properly separated and very pleasing to listen to as i can make out sub bass, mid bass, mids and highs equally.
