Mario Prada invented the Saffiano finish at Tannery La Perla Azzurra in 1913 when developing the fashion house’s first handbag. This textured finish was to provide more resilience against natural wear and the elements. The Saffiano finish has come to be recognized as sign of both luxury and craftsmanship.
