PON10As the base kit includes Hiragana sublegends, the Norde kit would have to add them too and given how poorly that kit has done in previous drops, having Norde wasn't viable.
ZambumonI had been looking at your project page.. didn't even see that it was Hiragana sublegends only on MD. I understand now :) thanks for the reply! looking forward to your next project hopefully with a norde kit! ;)
quick question.
Is it really that extra more expensive to add the rough 10 1u caps to the base set?
PON10Since the base kit has 150 keycaps, adding 10 is almost 7% more keycaps. Current price for the Base kit is $140, so 7% more keycaps would add just shy of $10 (assuming all keycaps have the same cost). That's a big cost up for more than 90% of buyers that don't want Norde keycaps.
But on top of that, tooling for Norde keycaps with Hiragana sublegends don't exist. The kit price increase would have to cover the new tooling, so it would be much more than $10.
dvorcolYeah scrolled to fast and didnt see it was only a Hiragana sublegends set. i had been following the original design page..
They are always keys you pay for that dont end up on a board.. I still today catch my head deep in my hands with this hideous/hilarious predicament .. 10 more caps to a GMK base set and you have 4-6 more countries that can use it..
ZambumonRough €20 right? If Wodans "old" qoute from gmk still stands off course. Well nothing to do about anyway as this always is getting hammered down... Who needs Ansi enters?? And all of these other caps that are worthless in Europe. 🤗 I have a bunch I paid for and don't need........
PON10History shows adding a Norde keycap kit might attract about 3% more orders. I know N=2 is a small data set, but these are the only sets with Hiragana kits.
dvorcolI know i am the only one who wants it! :D alot of reasons for this. Especially with the current market setup.. customs, tax, shipping from US with MD as the biggest platform for selling sets. people also need to actually know and get use to a certain availability. Most EU peeps just abandon the idea bc of the current situation. let the caps clack and clack and the current percentage would come up.
What about Zambumon other set, around 80 norde kits sold. Thats 80 more sales as i presume people got the full base with it. That's over half of the MOQ..
dammit, i just want my caps! :D and dont care for the extra cost, as when i buy other sets with keys i dont end up needing..
RiterdandoI thought about that but I'm not sure the best way to make it comparable. Yuri's Base kit is pretty much the same, but ISO enters are also in the the Novelties and Icon Modifier kits; should those two also be included? So Base + Cyrillics (like Hiragana) + Icon Mods + International + Novelties?
RiterdandoIs it helpful to include Hiragana & Cyrillic? What are the odds someone will mix legend styles to see Norde legends? GMK Norde kit sales as a percent of Base kit sales is probably the most relevant.
dvorcolIn this context only NorDe is intwresting for me. That is what wewant to compare. The percentage to base kits is good.
The general problem with NorDe is still the low amount of sold kits. There are not enough NorDe keyboard enthusiasts out there. Even if the numbe would grow, a lot of them use ANSI because a lot boards do not support ISO. Same for me, I have 2 NorDE kits but in total 10 boards.
Riterdandoi can only speak for myself, but regarding gmk sets i stopped giving fucks about norde kits, as long as there are an iso enter and left shift in the base kit. my first kit was yuri and i kinda regret buying norde for 60 euros, should've bought the cyrillics instead for the coolness factor.
regarding others (sa/dsa), i hope for an iso kit and if there is none made, i put them on an ansi board and would still be happy about it. just takes a few days to get used to the layout change.
dvorcolI've actually got a spreadsheet that I keep up concerning NorDe/Int kits. My numbers are based just on comparing those numbers to base kits instead of all kits since my assumption in the math is everyone who ordered a child git got at least a single base kit. For GMK I have:
- Plum - 2.25%
- Nautilus - 4.318%
- Yuri - 4.278%
- Laser - 4.755%
- Royal Alpha R2 - 6.363%
- Red Samurai - 4.262%
I've also got numbers for SA/DSA averaging 6.572% and XDA averaging 10.774%.
donutcatAt first I was using the orders of all full-alpha kits. You could fill some boards with Nishi + Norde + Ergodox, for example. But would anyone actually do that?
dvorcolRoyal Alpha R1 ran twice on MD - 1st attempt failed to meet MOQ, thus changes were made for the 2nd attempt and it made it. Royal Alpha R2 was ran by Donutcat later on and succeed as the set became very popular after R1 concluded.
PON10You are not the only one though ;)
In my opinion the problem with the NorDe kit is the price, I would love to have the correct legends on my caps like every other but not if I have to pay half the price of a base kit. And while the base kit hits numbers around the 1k mark (for hype sets that is) and drops hard in price the iso folks needs to see how it gets numbers by itself. What i‘m trying to say is that there are not only ~4% of participants who would like norde support but rather only 4% who can and want to afford a keyset for over 200$ (base+norde+shipping +taxes) to cover everything an ansi user could cover for ~120$ (+-20$).
KunoVery true that is. ( me and the 3 other guys are just "stupid" enough to pay the extra for it :D ) We just need a EU platform! Especially with the silliness of GMK sets coming out of DE to be shipped to states and back to EU for more customs fees.
