Drop DSA Astrolokeys Keycaps by sailorhg & cassidoo
It's an OK keyboard. It was advertised as being QMK-compatible but this functionality was dropped at the last minute. The keycaps are nice, and the overall aesthetic of the board is clean, but it sounds incredibly cheap and hollow. It still offers good value for money given the included keycaps but I wouldn't buy it again.
Got both colors purely for the aesthetic of the case and wanted to try the MG keycaps.
Software is ok aside from not having the "tap dance" capability. Also melgeek never replied when i had an inquiry about the software.
Drop had it on sale at $100 which is the main reason it was sort of worth it.
As another reviewer mentioned, if youre after the parts, then probably worth it.
Yes case is hollow sounding, but the MG keycaps also contributes to the hollow sound.
I was able to fit a minila layout pcb, so other pcbs probably will fit.
Also it sort of has a daughter board using usb c plug instead of a jst inside. so you might be able to experiment adding flex to it.
if youre after one board to build, there are better boards out there with better value for the price.
absolute garbage experience. don't waste your time on this company (melgeek)
The keyboard arrived with large scratches on the case, and black divots soon appeared as well. As I was planning on modding this keyboard and harvesting the keycaps, this did not bother me as much, but still annoying. The real issue came about two weeks later, when after finishing the mods and putting in some aqua kings and new stabs, the keyboard just stopped. Nothing connected at all, and it continues to be broken. My computer can tell it is connected to a keyboard but can't do much else about it. This combined with the horrible software provided to program the board leads me to believe that every product from this company(melgeek) is just as garbage. Don't bother.
This keyboard had a scratch and after i used it for 2 days, the bluetooth and wired connection and i want to return it and there is no page to return. Please contact me,Drop!!
Wanted to love this, modded a bit to add a new plate for a 64 custom build. Looks and types great, but my major issue with this build, it sounds horrible. I've added dampening which has helped but the case design is not great. The sound is very hollow and plasticity, the gk64 stock cases sound better, and that's not saying much. I love the design shape and style of the board but the material is way too thin and the design itself makes modding really difficult. No qmk but the software is fine. Really wish the case was a bit thicker for more thock. Nice pcb overall for a 60%, caps are an added bonus,, all in all the parts made up for the case for a future custom build. Objective review, but if you like hollow sounding cases that are very light and will easily travel this is a good entry point.
Ignoring the shipping delays since Drop is just selling off extra models from the initial group buy. The keyboard is mediocre, but not without any redemption:
The good
The mirrored finish on the case is just as reflective as the photos and surprisingly durable
The hotswap functionality works as expected
The software is more configurable than I was worried it would be, but it's definitely not QMK
Bluetooth works well, and the keyboard works in wired mode too
The included keycaps were nice
The bad
The case isn't very stiff so it feels mushy
There is no sound dampening at all, so the case has a twangy echo that sounds horrible and ruins a lot of the experience if you don't have headphones on
The RGB is difficult to configure and the LEDs aren't very bright, at least on teh case with the mirrored finish
The board is nice and solid and the keycaps look slick I got the red switches and they sound nice but the return key is rattly af but other than that its very good. it ALSO stopped working after 40 minutes and i didn't get refunded the money yeet even after the 10 days and they haven't done anything since
