Bought this one (Olive and Black) some time ago off MD.
100% GoreTex so when you are pelted by rain just simply shake off the hat when you get under shelter and place it on the hat rack.
Easy to look after and will never absorb any H2O whilst owning this product. Always use it in the Winter months so you can arrive at your destination dry and comfortable.
ShawnRufusA bug net is like a few dollars, they come in shapes that fit around your hat, and you can take them off and pack them down super small for those times you don't need them. Like say, in a downpour where you won't be having a mozzie problem, but you WOULD be having a "I have a useless net which I can't take off, that is now soaked and heavy"-problem.
Why is the Ghost not available in small? I'm between S & M and unsure which size I should order. If the M is more like 58, that's way too large, but 55 is way too small. I think either 56 or 57 would work OK. looks like I'm going to miss this drop as I'm unsure about the sizing.
kenwstrI've got a head circumference of 55cm (I'm on the smaller side) and before growing out my hair, the M sized Olympia (also from outdoor research) was kinda loose for me. But it's fine after I grew my hair out. Depending on the thickness and springiness of your hair (mine's both thick and springy) it could be fine for you
RayFI'm a backpacker and I have looked at these before. Are they practical at all to use as a sun hat or does the lack of breathability prove to much to bear?
HogieI haven't worn for it extended periods so I can't speak to long-term ventilation performance. It also has a semi-stiff brim, so it's not quite a "crusher" you can stuff in a bag or pocket. That said, I think it would work well enough to justify the expense--and I know you'll like the rain performance.
evenerSame size you'd wear in any other S-M-L-XL sized hat, but they're adjustable within that range via a velcro tab in the headband. Overall, I'd say they tend to run roomy.
Ok, so mine arrived yesterday and I have to say.... It may be nicer than the twenty year old one it is replacing! What a great hat, thank you guys for offering them! See you for another one in another twenty years!
