Product Description
Designed by Pioneer’s Chief Speaker Engineer, Andrew Jones, these bookshelf speakers are great on their own or as part of a multi-channel home theater system. They feature a sophisticated six-component two-way crossover, which breaks the audio signal into low and high frequencies to ensure a high-quality sound Read More
i used these with a 5.4.1 home system, the rest of the pieces are all andrew jones, and a pioneer elite receiver. I love all of the andrew jones stuff, had many people unable to believe i didn't spend 5k plus when my setup kills their 2-3k plus setups in clarity and quality. my neighbors disapprove of this setup but i love this whole line of speakers.
Driving these off of a TEAC AX-501 using a TEAC UD-501 DAC. I've zero complaints. They sound great and can get surprisingly loud. For that super deep bass, get a sub-woofer.
Edit 1.5 years later:
I've replaced the AX-501 with a Schiit Ragnarok 2 and added a number of tube amplifiers (Primaluna Prologue Five, Yaqin MC-6P1P, Nobsound 6P1, and Audioromy M-828A) to the collection (along with a boxie to handle switching high level output), and I can happily say that these speakers are still great on any of the amps. Still a bit bass shy, but that is what a subwoofer is for.
The whole Andrew Jones series is absolutely worth the price if you want decent quality sound while on a budget.
Great speakers, well built, packaged really well. Im usign a magni 3 as a pre amp to a smsl sa-50 and it sounds really good, it does have a sweet spot for the bass, and it comes through very clean with basically no distortion.
I'm very happy with these. Astonishing bass from such a small woofer and cabinet. Treble could be a bit brighter, but that 's easily address. Clean design, lots of attention to detail, I like 'em.
These are hooked to a standalone amp (AMP100VS)+Topping D30 -- and used as TV speaker replacements in a bedroom.
The shape/size is perfect for the application, and I thought this was just going to be significantly better than TV speakers for TV-audio.. but I play music on this.
For the price/size the performance really can't be beat.
Excellent speakers! These have been reviewed by the top audiophile magazines and nothing under $300 can beat them. If you want music to be faithfully reproduced, these are the speakers to get. If you want over-the-top bass and don't mind some distortion, look elsewhere! These speakers put out bass, but only what is in the recordings. The clarity is impressive! I am driving these with a 50 Watt per channel amplifier, which seems adequate for these speakers. I was prepared to pay over $100 for these speakers, but Massdrop sold them for just $70. Highly recommneded-
My setup: 10x12 home office. These speakers are connected to a 2-channel Sony receiver (STRDH190). I mostly use these for listening to podcasts and music.
Thoughts: Out of the box, I wasn't expecting them to be as large as they are, but that's my own lack of spatial awareness when looking at dimensions. That being said they fit perfectly on my bookcase on one side of the room and the equipment rack in the other corner. I run my receiver at about 1/3 of max volume and individual devices to my desired volume. These speakers easily fill the room with pretty solid sound. The low end is a touch quiet, but I've found the overall sound to be accurate. For $90, these were a steal and a big upgrade from my previous 10-year old set. If these pop up again, I may change out my aging speakers in the basement.
