So what's a good speaker set to get with the 901?

Curlyman72I have Klipsch and JBL. My stereo speakers are JBL, which I've had for about thirty years, they've been reconed, and I like the JBL because they have a good even sound, but can push the bass when needed. My surround speakers are all Klipsch, because they are complementary to the JBLs. I will note that these are not "audiophile" speakers, they are high end consumer grade, but they can handle the power of the Pioneer AVR and the sound they put out is nice, even and clean. Because this is surround sound, to get a higher grade speaker would mean spending considerably more than I am prepared to spend for the speakers (11 for 9.2, so to upgrade from my existing 7.1, I only had to buy 2 ATMOS speakers and a subwoofer, which were both on sale from Klipsch recently, so I was able to save what I overpaid on the 701 because I was too impatient for this drop).

These are really good prices, and I'm sorry that I didn't realize that these were going to drop repeatedly until they got traction. I've had mine for a month now and still working to figure out the set-up. That being said, there is a decided convenience factor in having a set-up screen (mine old Pioneer predates that innovation). Set-up is fairly intuitive, though like any electronics manual, it could use some work.
The naming conventions on the remote are somewhat odd for my use (I don't do gaming, though I have it available for my children, I'd prefer a label for the computer instead). I'd also prefer a toslink output, but that seems to have gone the way of the dinosaur.
Speaking of dinosaurs, the phono pre-amp is resurrected in this AVR, so even though I can't hook up an optical out directly for digitizing my vinyl, I can at least play my vinyl without a pre-amp (after I bought one not that long ago).
One quirk: if you want to listen through the AVR, but not the TV, you will need to mute the TV, but in my case, I have to turn the volume on the tv down rather than mute it as it has a mute bug onscreen. I am not yet sure about the energy consumption from using this as my primary listening device, so am reluctant to use it all the time. I am also concerned about the heat it generates from being left on, since the first time I used it and forgot to turn it off overnight, it raised the temperature in my media room noticeably, but less so since. Not sure that's an issue.
As to the sound, I haven't cranked it yet, but at a lower level, which is what I listen to it for TV, it has a clean sound and the surround sound is fairly creepy, meaning really good placement, which is the most you ask for with surround sound.
Bottom line, even with my limited use to date, at these prices, this is a really good deal. Specs on these are on par with competitive brands (Denon, Yamaha, Sony, Marantz), and at these prices, I can't anyone being disappointed on this drop.
Anyone know if the MCACC EQ applies to the subwoofer? The Audessey "Platinum" room correction package includes subwoofer equalization and I really don't want to have to go do it by hand again with a new receiver.

ElectronicVicesThis is what Pioneer says: MCACC Pro, the pinnacle of Pioneer’s auto room tuning technology, analyzes the phase and group delay characteristics to precisely control phase differences between speakers. MCACC Pro corrects phase differences in all ranges and all channels, from phase difference in the original audio material to the sound emitted from the speakers.Required microphone is included in box.

Hmm...don't mind the price, but have no interest in A/V receivers--or rattling the windows, cracking the plaster, or setting off car alarms. How about a nice 2.1 integrated receiver for listening to music--through--dare I suggest it--speakers (as in TWO SPEAKERS--as in STEREO--as in no subs, no centers, just left and right channels)?!!!
