still not the same brand. Kivors is not Plazmatic. the outward design may be the same. they may even be manufactured in the same plant(they might also not be, one may be a knock off, I don't care enough to check). but the brand costs more regardless and it's a relatively good deal for the brand.

The shipment has arrived. Seems the only notifications I get from Massdrop are notifications that there has been a delay or the automatic poor customer service response "you can cancel if you'd like.' We would like you to follow through with what you offer. I am stubborn and will not cancel but there needs to be better customer service than that.

Every time I've ever puchased from Massdrop there has been delay after delay and they always blame the manufacturer when they miss their ship date. I won't do business here anymore.

My first drop and it is leaving a bad taste in my mouth. Not a good first impression. Will end up at least a month later than estimated ship date. Guess i am going camping this weekend without this.

You need to realize that Massdrop isn't the manufacturer and that if the vendor's delay the shipment there isn't anything they can do about it except keep an open communication with the customers... which they do an excellent job of. I have been a part of a number of audio drops in the last two years and I have had no problems with any of my orders. One got delayed, but we were also given the option of switching to a new (better version) for the same price if we didn't mind the wait.
I also had a problem with one of my purchases coming with a bad connector and they overnight shipped me a replacement that got here well before my return shipment reached them (kudos to Grace Design for the assist). If you've never worked in sales and had to deal with third party suppliers then I suggest you have a bit more patience. It's a lighter, how urgent is your need for this?
Besides, when you do group buys you are sacrificing time-frame in order to get a better price. That's how the entire philosophy works, just be glad that you're dealing with a company and not random guys on a forum where you have no recourse if they can't deliver. Obviously if you don't want to wait that's up to you, but don't blame them for a supplier not meeting their order time-frame.

However, upon taking inventory of everything received, our team was made aware of a backorder affecting a small handful of units. Anyone manage to get a good protective coating on theirs? After only about a month of it being in my pocket with my change and other metal things, whatever the original coating was on the lighter has started to chip away.
I'm wondering what the easiest way to manage this might be, as I am a novice to DIYing.

Mine arrived earlier this week, Wednesday or so. Shipped on 28 July, delivered on ~31 Aug. It came in international registered mail in a bubble wrap envelope, USPS. Things usually don't take this long to ship so I was starting to get worried, but it is here now.
Working as expected. It has the high pitched noise that others mentioned, but this is an electrical lighter, so you'll have electrical noise. Opening and closing the lid gives a satisfying feeling, it snaps open and closed. The lighter has a good weight too (battery), so it feels good in the hand.

I just got mine today, I need to ask you all to do me a favor, can you shake yours and tell me if the button wiggles and makes noise when you shake yours? I want to know if it is just me since when i asked Plazmatic about finding out a way to fix it they told me THEY NEVER ENCOUNTERED this issue before, I just highly doubt that so can you help me out? Much appreciated!
EDIT: after talking to their support team I have concluded that they (Plasmatic) :
1. Dont know whats inside their own product 2. Dont care about helping their customer, or making them happy or even taking any responsibility for the product (they told me to ask massdrop why it was making the noise) 3. Are LITERALLY no better than their knockoffs and you will prob get better service EVEN if you ordered from China (at least they know how its built and can troubleshoot it with you)
I would hesitate to support them, If anyone finds this product interesting then please get dont get it from Plasmatic, you can find ANOTHER DROP OF THE SAME ITEM BY ANOTHER COMPANY but to blindly pay more to support a company that doesn't care is just not smart.
Anyways I find out the problem after dismantling the device (which i do not recommend, I was very careful but do so at your own risk) and finding the worst quality O ring imaginable, squished into an oval. Lucky after a dive in the broken electronics bin (e-juice section) I found just the right O-ring, and after some fiddling managed to get it and the button back into place and reassembled it. Now the button sits perfectly flush with side and barley wiggles at all. And now the noise has stopped. I did all this without any help from Plasmatic even after repeated attempts, all i got were copy and pasted emails.

It didnt last long, after a few weeks it would arc out and hit the metal case and shock me, tossed it since and got a full refund, never had any issues with massdrop themselves!
