I am puzzled as to the price.
More than 50 people have jumped on this, so these must be quality products and are obviously desirable. However why do these cost $40?
I have lots of products made of titanium (flashlights, wallets, knives, carabiners, etc.), but an item this small should normally be expected to cost around $20 or so, no? Am I missing something?
BobrazWell, the only thing you're missing is that there's probably little competition in the titanium quick-release key chain market.
That's just a guess, but that's probably why they can charge a premium and still have folks buy.
Titanium is sexy, and I find myself itching to buy this, even though I really don't need it. Very happy with the Kappas from a previous drop.
If they were offering this in stainless, I'd probably not be interested at all. That's the draw of titanium, I guess.
Help me out! I still can't figure out where the tritium vial slips into the device? Also, does anyone have a link to the source for a vial that would fit into this little gem?
It looks like the trit vials slide in the 2x holes at the end. Anyone know how the vials stay in place? Do I need to order Some Norlands epoxy to prepare?
0880Norland 61 is the most popular adhesive for installing Tritium vials as it has optical clarity but requires curing with UV light.
Many also use epoxy and other types of glue.
Just so you know that was my first comment in this thread, I wasn’t the guy who commented before. I was just looking for somewhere where I could buy a q-ring now and saw this discussion and thought I would chime in as I’ve actually bought the one I linked in my comment. I’m not a douche who would call someone names of insult there I.Q over something so silly.
By the way I have the Q-Ring now and it is substantially better than the one I linked from amazon, I bought it so it would match the rest of my titanium accessories.
These normally run $65, and can only be had off a couple sites. I've had my eye on these since way back at version 2, When you could only find them on the secondary market, and they were well over $100, if you could find them. $40 for these is a steal! Hence why I, and several forumite friends of mine jumped all over this drop. All 100 gone in less than 24hrs.
Understood, I should have jumped on it!
There is a Prometheus Kappa Quick-Release Keychain drop at this time; I placed an order, then cancelled (the discount was so small) but I'm still on the fence. Should I take that one or not... 🤔
BobrazI've heard good things about the kappa, but I've not personally used one, other than to play with a friends. It's nice, but it doesn't "lock" in like these do. It's also gonna be a good bit heavier than these, due to materials used. If you wanted a quick release for a Prometheus light, I'd suggest the kappa.
Would be nice if one could add extra, lets call them, "pant-end" sections.
You know, this little guy:
search
The main body stays with the keys, the ends stay on the pants.
I know, that's not how they are used in the photos. They're doing it wrong :D
One cannot possibly be expected to unhook the ring every time one changes pants. Who has time for that?
Seriously, I'd join if I could add a bunch of them, assuming they are reasonably priced of course.
I totally understand wanting something titanium and high quality, but I've been using an Amflo quick release for years and it's strong, unobtrusive, and for some reason, most people don't know about them. Search for Amflo keychain, they're like $6.
JBVVThese are the 'step up' to titanium with provision for GITD or tritium version of the Amflo QR. They're for people who want a bit more. Nothing wrong with the original though.
One of the rings on my new key chain bent a little just putting on my keys. Not sure if titanium or a $40+ keychain should do that. That is exactly what I was trying to avoid.
shibeloveIf you are talking about the split rings, you have to be really careful with titanium, it is strong but has much less "memory" than steel. Bend the rings too far and you will get a permanent gap.
If you need to stretch the split ring to fit your keys you would be much better off switching them for steel or stainless.
