Product Description
Legend has it that the two fir trees in the Rhodia logo symbolize the company's two founding brothers, who came from a family of paper merchants and established the Verilhac Paper Mills in the French Alps. Named for the Rhone river that runs near Lyon, France where the company was founded in 1932, Rhodia's notepads are known for their high quality Read More

PenmanEven though this is a "sale" price from Anderson Pens (their regular price is $9/ea), it's a great deal. I'd be curious to know if there is a quantity maximum, as suggested by @choiceweb0pen0.
The shipping max seems be at whatever USPS priority shipping is (in CONUS). Decent paper usually zooms right past the less expensive "first class" rate because of its weight.
As @Scionyde mentioned, if one can purchase 5 (with a $5-7 on shipping), it's less expensive than MD, and includes faster shipping (within CONUS).
The price for this drop is reasonable (given "usual" prices), but it seems as though Anderson Pens is stepping up to the "free market" plate. Also, if you max out your shipping on Anderson pens, there are all sorts of other goodies (read: ink samples) you can pick up. :-)
So, for those of you who might think I have a blind bias in favor of Massdrop (fortunately, no one has suggested I do) ... I'd have to say that if you're interested in this drop, compare the "per notebook" price with Anderson Pens (or whoever else) before going forward with your retailer of choice. Actually, I try to be as objective and honest as possible in my posts, especially the long ones.
Perhaps Massdrop will be able to negotiate a lower price with their source because of this. I know this might be tricky at this point in the process, but what say you, Massdrop?
Thanks for suggestion, @Penman and thanks for the follow-ups @Scionyde and @choiceweb0pen0.
Cheers.

TL,DR: (written May 28, 2016): Note recent edit. Excellent quality, fountain pen-friendly paper in a smaller form than the webnotebook. Seems to be reasonably priced drop (some savings) if interested in more than 1 or 2. If you want to try 1, might want to look at other retailers. Conclusion: Probably safe bet to buy through MD if you want more than 2.
Your friendly neighborhood comparison shopper, here ...
I saw the orange and black on the "buy" page for writing so I had to investigate.

[EDIT ON MAY 28, 2016: Please note that this post was written about a year ago. I have no idea what may or may not have changed regarding price or availability in the USA. These rest of the post is about the notebooks and is not date-dependent.]
If the lowest price is reached, these will be $40.99 + $2.19 = $43.18 = $8.64/ea for CONUS purchases. Jetpens has them for $9.50/ea with free shipping for orders $25+. Obviously, this is is still more than this drop, but worth a mention.
That said, I haven't found these elsewhere online (I checked amazon, goulet, google). It's possible that this is one of those items with very limited availability in the USA, so if this is something you're interested in, it might be worth joining this drop. Not sure what the shipping cost is to Europe. As these are made in France, they may be more available on that side of the Atlantic.
***********************************************************
As for the notebooks, themselves:
The have fewer sheets (by about a third) than the equivalent webnotebooks, a flexible cover (easier carry but less rigid writing surface when on the go) and perforated sheets. The perforated sheets seem to be great for sorting through your writing at the end of a busy day, or for sharing a note with someone else.
And they're Rhodia, so we already know it's very fountain pen friendly.
Conclusion:
If you're familiar with the A6 Rhodia Webnotebooks, but wish you had more flexibility (no pun intended) with how you can use them, this might be a good deal, especially as there's seriously limited availability in the US. Also, if you like the flexible Moleskine pocket notebook, but want something that's reliably fountain pen friendly, these seem like a great option.
If you're curious about these, you've read this far, keep thinking ..."but we're only saving a buck or two on each) and/or have no idea what I'm talking about, then add them to a Jetpens order. Or skip it altogether.
Anyway, I was drawn in by the shiny orange and black covers and thought I'd share what I gleaned from my quick online search.
Hope this is helpful to anyone considering the drop.
And, as usual, I have no affliliation with Massdrop, Rhodia or any retailer of these. (I was just aimlessly looking for a distraction).
Cheers.

I'm shocked that this many sold. It breaks down to 8 dollars each, haha. You can get pocket notebooks for 89 cents at Wal-Mart. Even moleskin brand has a 2 pack for like 5.99 I believe. 40 for a 5 pack is crazy

ItsrainingI realize this is quite an old comment, but Rhodia paper quality is vastly superior. For fountain pen users, paper quality is important. Try Rhodia, Clairefontaine, or Tomoe River paper sometime, and then you may understand why people mare willing to pay for it.

ItsrainingThe quality of the Rhodia paper and binding make it a far superior book compared to K-Mart stuff. These are even superior to Molskine notebooks. You're comparing a BMW to a Chevy.

acriolloI've seen some mixed reviews for the "field notes" for those wishing to use them with a with a fountain pen. If "fountain pen friendly" is not on your list of criteria, then you actually have many more choices over the Rhodia notebooks, many of which are less expensive (except Moleskine).
For those wondering if the size and/or paper will work for them, you should be able to find the the thinner (ie. fewer pages) Rhodia notebook of comparable size (3ish x 5ish) at a Blick/Utrecht Art Supply store. It's about 1/2 the number of pages, you can't tear them out, it doesn't have the elastic band and the cover is a little different, but otherwise it's the same thing.
In other words, it's completely different except for the paper and page size, which are the same. There are only a few days left, but if you have a place that sells any Rhodia stuff, these staple-bound pocket notebooks are probably part of their selection. Cost is about 1/2 (per notebook) as the unlimited (I think).
Anyway, that's what comes to mind. As always ...
Hope this helps.
Cheers.

why are these so small, what are they used for? Could someone explain the novelty of these

NorrisBThey are nice for carrying around and not bulky.... Rarely do I even have enough cause to fill an entire 8.5x11 page of notes, but when I want to jot something down quickly (wifi password, directions, etc), this is the size for me.

NorrisBThese fit perfectly in a jacket or shirt pocket. The covers are firm but not annoying like the Web Book, yet sturdier then the Midori. They also have the elastic band so the covers don't open in your pockets. What I l especially love is that the pages are perforated and work perfectly despite what your pen choice might be. For taking quick notes and or handing them out, for me, this is the best product I've found.

are these only available with the ruled paper or are the other varieties offered?

For traveling, this is the best small carry note book I've found. The cover is soft and does not press aginst your body, the elastic band keeps the covers from expanding within pocket and the paper quality for all types of pens and pencils is expectional. These are becoming harder to find, as shops like Anderson Pen and Goulet will no longer be stocking them. If you like them as much as I do, grab them while you can.
