The Royal Kludge is a decent price for a Topre-esque keyboard with neat features that you don't find on all Topre boards - RGB backlighting and MX-compatibility.
I have both a silenced Novatouch, Royal Kludge 55g, and Realforce 55g. The Kludge feels just a little heavier than the Novatouch but is similar, while the Realforce 55g feels heavier and harder to press than the Kludge. The Kludge has a nice weight balance. It also is pretty quiet when typing - no need for a silencing mod.
However, the Kludge's action feels scratchier while typing compared to both the NT and RF, maybe due to the plastic sliders being a rougher plastic on the Kludge? - perhaps some lube can fix this. Not really a fan of its shiny plastic either. Overall I would rate:
Novatouch (silenced) > FC660C > Royal Kludge 55g > Realforce 55g > Novatouch (unmodded)

FarsideCan you describe what you modded to silence the Novatouch?

FarsideDo you prefer your 45g over 55g keyboards?

bulleoHe could have either dental banded them (http://imgur.com/a/jdNfF) or use silenced pads (http://imgur.com/a/cKxuu). Both options require the topre/topre clone keyboard be dissembled to install.

bulleoSilencing any Topre board is similar. It consists of removing the plastic plungers from their housing, placing an appropriately sized rubber pad or dental band on the plunger, and reassembling it. Placing the pads reduces the key travel slightly, but if done properly it almost eliminates the plastic rattle noise of typing. However the Novatouch's spacebar still sounds loud and I haven't figured out how to fix it.
The process is very time consuming, and opening the Novatouch is a real challenge (harder than taking apart any other Topre keyboard) since the case is built so sturdily. There are some guides available that describe how to open up the keyboard and perform the mod on the keyboard communities (/r/mechanicalkeyboards, GeekHack, etc.).

veryearlybirdyIn my experience, different 45g and 55g keyboards feel very different. Seems like there's no well defined standard to making the Topre rubber cups, or maybe different manufacturing processes.
I really did not like the Realforce 45g - for some reason the keypresses had such little resistance that it lacked tactility and seemed linear. The RF 55g is a little too tough for me, but a lot of people love it. The RF 55g is a good choice if you think Cherry MX brown/blue/red are much too light. The Kludge 55g feels more like 45g in the Novatouch or FC660C, if just slightly heavier.
Overall I feel the 45g in the HHKBs, Novatouch, and FC660C are just right for me. The Novatouch is my favorite because it's TKL, is MX compatible, and feels and sounds great to type on (after doing the silencing mod). If I can figure out how to dampen the Novatouch's spacebar stabilizer then it would perfect.

FarsideAh that makes sense. The Royal Kludge 55g feels like a 45g Novatouch. Then the 45g Royal Kludge must rather feels like 35g. And now we have the exact same weights as offered by Noppoo on the EC108 -> 45g and 35g. Since the Noppoo is supposed to be the OEM or supplier of royal kludge, I think they use the 45g and 35g switches. (but falsely marketed them as 55g and 45g, maybe because of the installed orings.).

FarsideThanks for your take! I've tried the Novatouch (unmodded) and it felt a little heavy for my taste. It's good to know that the 45g Royal Kludge (and probably the 45g Noppoo EC-108 pro) feel lighter than that.

FarsideHmn. Now i'm confused. I have a Type Heaven it's 45G. It feels basically exactly like the amount of force it takes to depress a cherry brown. Maybe a little more subjectively just at the top. But it's fairly light to me, better than browns because Topre, and brown being somewhat intolerably light. 35G would not even be Topre anymore, it would just be linear lol. I was looking to get 55G for a more stiff feel. You really think the 55G on this is just 45G? Can you put a stack of nickles on a key and test it? Be lame to get it for 55G and have it not be.
Also mostly i have heard the Nova is a lighter feel than 45G by more than one person> So that's a no Go. This 55 better be a lot more than a Nova.

MTKMKII can say that the 55g feels slightly heavier than 45g keyboards, specifically the Novatouch, but not as heavy as Realforce 55g.

FarsideCool thanks for that. Yeah after i posted that i weighed the switches on my Type Heaven.
And i also weighed 2 rubber membrane keyboards along with it. One being 10 years old and used as much, another being new unused old stock.
All of them were often 5G higher across the board than their rated specs up to 10G and up to 40G on Type Heavens space bar.( It held - all approx using nickles - 85G before collapse). So i wonder if people even really know what 45G feels like or how much of it is just subjective.. I would say Type Heaven felt like MX Browns in force required to activate. They are similar, but not the same force is required.
It also didn't feel much different than my rubber membrane which came in at about 60-65G average by comparison.
That said it may not be much to worry about and i'll go for the 55G just in case. It just seems to me if anything they are probably higher than 45G and 55G respectively rather than less after testing a true Topre along with two vastly different rubber membrane boards all being rubber based and getting basically the same result.
