pLaStiKMaNIf the screen size is all you're concerned with, then you're missing a lot. Arduboy is not just a gaming console, it's a development platform for creating your own games! There's a huge online community with lots of great games and tons of cool programming techniques for learning about game development on a small platform.
hey Massdrop, i wanted so many times to support this great site but the shipping is just too much, why do you even give the option if you cant manage like better shipping price...its ridiculous to pay 39.99 for this teeny-tiny envelope game boy and the shipping to EU is 21USD??? guys am not hating , think about it you have big market here nobody will pay this with that shipping the site is pointless, and am not talking about things like monitors where is shipping in hundreds usd ! thats just irrational dont you think?
ok so how it is that items I have bought in size and in weight like 3-5times bigger, literally the biggest METAL insolated 2,1L bottle several times heavier and 10times the volume, I have paid 12USD express shipping in 7 days, from not some site that pays half the shipping, it was from like normally reputable lttstore.com and it had like 3 items that size I mentioned and STILL, it was 12USD, and when it came to my country I DIDNT PAY any additional -
-NO FEES,
-NO TAXES,
-NO ADDITIONAL SHIPPING COSTS.
Dude you are not the only one that "worked" with international shipping, anybody that needs to transport something will get their hands dirty with xx shipping companies and the cost is about how much, how many, how often, basically what contract do you negotiate. And Massdrop is shipping WASTLY MORE quantum over the whole world, then small stores like lttstore.com with some metal bottles, big mousepads and shirts, and hoodies... This item here is SMALL, LIGH, and packaged in a small cardboard box like 10x15cm? MAX??? sry dude but I know how the business is done, the thing you selling is at a low price and when you hit buy the LAST step will "calculate you double, triple or MORE price in shipping, but the drop will pay maybe 10usd maybe LESS and the rest is margin for the product. I had an e-shop, I worked in a big eshop , everybody is doing it like that, domestic small products, small distances it was like 3,5euro for shipping but we paid like 0,50cents to the shipping company maybe 1euro max, on a product that was 10euro, etc that is 20-30% margin up, so you can be competitive and be like LOOK ON OUR BEST PRICE, etc etc etc, don't "wise me up here pleeease" OK?
I know when and what means NA-EU customs fees, tax fees, etc "peeeeeps" , Interesting that with 130eur shipments from NA in 7days with 3 products , more than 500grams (half a kilo) or more. I didn't pay any more fees just 12dollars shipment right to LTTstore.
If a small store like that CAN MANAGE bargain that shipping contract, Drop definitely has a better contract but is making marges with shipping. Nobody is getting fucked by the government, we all are getting fucked by Drop and if you cant see it and don't know how the industry works you are just blindfolded or stupid. Plain and simple.
albparaI believe it has something to do with the rechargeable batteries. Anything on Massdrop with batteries always has really high shipping it seems to me (or at least the drops that I find interesting). still would be saving $2.76 on this drop compared to buying from the official store but that's not much of a saving really.
Thanks for your reply. I use Anki on Android with color coded Chinese characters (different colors representing the tones) and Mandarin audio feedback, so an Arduboy app wouldn't cut it for me. But no doubt it would be fun to program something like that if you've got the time.
FranciscoYeah. I know what you mean. I use a lot of different learning tools including things like Rosetta Stone, HelloChinese (Android) and a few character learning apps.
Mainly it'll be fun to develop. It'll also be useful when I don't have ready access to my phone and whatnot or quick practice while in line at a store, etc.
Hey,
This thing would have been amazing, if it ran roms from emulators, and had a Micro SD card slot.
How is the gaming quality compared to an original Nintendo Gameboy?
You think (similar) games like Gameboy's Mario Land or Tetris will be possible on this thing?
ProDigitto give you an idea what kind of power this has, the original pokemon games ran with 8kb of ram and a fair amount more processing power. so gameboy color games, at least in their original format would be mostly improbable.

HermanMcPootisGBC definitely impossible; nowhere near the power required for color and significantly fewer pixels in the display.
Just wanted to chime in that I received my Arduboy today. It is a very cool little piece of gear. Very well made and the packaging is clever. The buttons have a nice feel to them and they are quiet enough that you can play without being bothersome to others. Also the screen is nice and sharp and renders the simple graphics quite well.
They also arranged the components under the acrylic cover in an aesthetic manner-a nice touch. Overall the Arduboy gives the impression of a well made device built like they cared. It is sturdy enough that I would have no hesitation giving this game to a three year old.
I can't comment on any other games because so far Mystic Baloon has me entertained enough that I haven't tried any others. All in all there is a good chance I will pick up a few more for gifts (and myself) next time they drop.
I do work on embedded systems, but not this type of embedded. I mean, even the first gen Raspberry Pi model A has 256MB of memory, while this one has 2.5KB. The only reason why the screen works is because it’s 1 bit color depth. Think about it, even 16 color would require 4KB RAM for the framebuffer, which is way beyond 2.5KB. And it’s sold at at least 42.99...
BrandonChangWell it's also an 8-bit micro, you gotta go back to calculating your screen rather than drawing it. Think of it more like the first Gameboy than a smartphone.
