Nifty SDR, with GPS as reference for frequency as well as time... not to mention the ability to do time difference of arrival direction finding! More features are being added to it by the developer, so over time it just gets better. Really like my latest "mental health toy" - though waiting for it to resurface in Hawai`i after FedEx handed it over to the Postal Disservice tests one's patience. But overall, getting one from Massdrop is worth it.
I am a long time radio enthusiast (since 1978) and SDR user (started with the SDR-14 when it came out, also have a netSDR, AFE822x, AirSpyHF+, couple of RTl dongles, etc). The KiwiSDR is a really nice value. I like being able to share the receiver with others, as well as use it remotely in the house via the iPad, etc.
I do need to get the GPS antenna outside, reception with it inside seems to be iffy at best. I also ended up getting another GPS antenna from Amazon, which seems to work a little better than the one provided.
Amazing SDR receiver. It's my second I how and i'm sharing online. Software is often updated and improved with new features. Maybe a larger bandwidth one day 50Mhz or 100Mhz? Upconverters or others addons.
Great product. Works incredibly well.
Be aware though, the description is wrong. It says there's an antenna included.
" It features a custom circuit board that connects to the Beaglebone Green or Beaglebone Black—all you need to supply is an antenna (included) ..."
The included antenna is a GPS antenna. You still need to supply a RF antenna like a mini whip or something.
