I'm just surprised that MD didn't consider taking the long position on a drop like this (if their hands aren't completely tied by Sennheiser). For a growing site which seems to be intent on expanding its more niche focus, this is exactly the kind of product that can create serious pass-through traffic and potential growth through word of mouth amongst the more savvy consumer base. Instead, that inherent goodwill is replaced by a "hmm, maybe I can do better" ambivalent feeling which may limit future visits to the site and relegate future e-mail updates and announcements to the spam folder. An opportunity lost. I'd be curious to know the number of people who are committing to this after Mark's post to hedge their risk on a potential quantity limit should there be a price adjustment, all with the intent on canceling if that adjustment does not materialize.

AFusWith the drop now decelerating, I don't think it's a question anymore of how many people will cancel -- I think it was around 20 when Mark posted, so only 5 more hard commits (out of 20 since then) before this drop is... ahem... 'successful' -- but rather more now about how many MD members were excited & are now opting out based solely on disappointment. Not seeing it reduced *at least* down to $299 after shipping to match the old common 'deal' pricing -- especially with the holidays not too far away -- was a shock, as there's still a strong argument for why that's not really a 'true deal'. Frankly, I feel ungrateful now for not getting in on those deals several months ago when they were still around. Woulda shoulda coulda. <br /><br />@Mark -- Last thing I have to say on the topic before I shut up is that another email should go out (yes, despite the complaints) alerting people of either an update/improvement or of any early closing, if applicable, so that they can cancel if nothing can be changed. I don't know the behind-the-scenes story, but at this point, the fairest fix would seem to be just adding another drop point for 60-70 units so that both the members and MD can benefit.
