Just received my Skyloong GK87 and have it attached to my Macbook pro. It keeps disconnecting after 15-20min away from the computer. I need to re-plug in order to use the keyboard. At this rate, this keyboard is not usable. Is there a setting I'm not aware of?
Not sure if this has been discussed, but the model they’re selling is not wireless. If you want wireless, you should buy the GK87S. I got mine from YMDK on AliExpress.
A decent alternative would be either the Everglide SK87 or SK108. Both come in white; are wireless and have only an easily removable sticker on the bottom as a brand dentifier.
Zafer94It's honestly baffling why 5 pin isn’t just standard in pcb design. I get technical redundancy in plate mount scenarios, but for hot swap applications it is a must to ensure alignment, stability, and non-destructive compatibility with expensive switches. I assume the potential for slight variables in tolerance to cause interference is why it’s so rare, but I really can’t see it being *that* much of an actual issue versus the benefits.
At this price, it's a nice entry point into mech boards, especially with per-key RGB backlight. But it has north facing switches, which means some keycaps (mostly cherry profile) will not bottom out properly. I also don't know how much customization the software allows, but it has a windows and mac version which is nice to see.
A good alternative is the XD87 which is south facing, has a hot-swap and solderable version, runs QMK and is compatible with VIA https://caniusevia.com/. And I'm pretty sure the case is exactly the same, without the big logo on the front. It's a bit more expensive though.
LouwiiI get why they went North-facing; on the whole, more customers will probably care about backlit letters on pudding / shine-through caps than being able to mount Cherry profile.
That being said there are some options for the rest of us; there are spacing washers you can put on the stems that resolve the interference issue. There are also a few new switches that have re-shaped housings to avoid it altogether; Kailh's Silent Box Browns, for example.
NBSHFTRFor $70, this seems like a fine starting point. You could also check out the Womier K87 for another entry point 5-pin hotswap with a good feature set.
