I considered split keyboards for gaming when the keyboards can be placed on the armrests for comfort. Although I first looked at half keyboards, I thought why not splits, as I can use them as my main input boards too. Before this Split54 board, I purchased the Mistel MD770. The problem is that I need to connect the two halves with a long USB cable every time I set them up. When I saw the option of true wireless, I immediately made the purchase. There have been reports on the issues of reliability. I think I received the keyboard very late and updated it to the latest firmware. I don't think missing key presses are issues for me. This is also my first keyboard with customizable layer functions. I think this is very useful. I set the left function key for the lasting layer switch and the right for the temporary switch to layer 1. I created a layer where all alphabet keys are combined with the Ctrl. When I need to frequently copy and paste text, I switch to that layer.
I also bought color keycaps to make some customization. The switches are also a mixture of soft, heavy, tactile, and clicky. I like the lightweight and small footprint of these keyboards. I use a pair of mouse pads as the wrist rests.
