In comparison to cloth or neoprene desk mats, how much do these leather mats prevent a keyboard from sliding? (I use a split, steeply tented board, so typing on it involves a lot more horizontal force than a typical keyboard.)

Curious—were any animals harmed/tortured or otherwise made to suffer needlessly in the production of theses mats?

RayFAbsolutely..
FYI the leather is not waterproofed. It’s easy enough to do yourself, but until then you won’t want to spill anything on it or touch it with wet hands.
Ordered and it says it's not supposed to be shipped until March 2021. Anyone know what that's about?

Christianmaldo626That is how Drop works. Sometimes the delivery dates are obscene.
DrueThanks for the response. I've seen them a month or two out. But March was too long. I ended up picking one up from Etsy for a similar price. Let me know if you want the link.

I love the idea and look. I'm concerned on mouse performance though. Has anyone used one like this for gaming? I feel like it may not move as smoothly or consistent as a normal pad does. For daily work it may not be an issue but for gaming I wonder...

ragedemonsIt'll work okay. The surface should be sufficiently smooth, but it's going to wear over time. I'm partial to an aluminum surface with a lightly textured polycarbonate covering, for gaming. The cool kids are using neoprene or something, these days, though; like the crappy pads we used in the 90s, but more bigger.
ragedemonsI have a large rectangle of Horween Chromexcel leather that I use as a desk mat. I use a mousepad on top of it.

Has anyone had any luck getting theirs to lay flat? I've had mine several weeks now allowing it to relax, and it still is rippled from shipping rolled. I've tried laying it in the sun, and applied some leather conditioner to see if that would soften it up and allow it to relax more, with no luck. Anyone figure out something that works?
belznerPut heavy books on it.

Mat is a lot stiffer then I expected, not a bad thing though. Feels really nice

AsatiirBut does the mouse slide as easily like on a textile one?

cavilikonslides very smoothly, I love it
The mat was shipped rolled up - so - what is the best way to flatten the mat?

Wayne_G_RobinsonYup, what I came here to mention. I don't know if this is right, but I am letting mine "relax" upside-down. I am hoping that it will flatten itself out in a day or two. Once it gets reasonably flat, I think that I will turn it right-side-up and let it relax some more. Right now, it looks like a wide "U". I am being very cautious with it, because I am worried that if I try to force it from its rolled up position, I will cause the leather to crack or flake. I anticipated it being shipped flat, perhaps between some stiff cardboard or something. However, the leather on mine looks good and I am looking forward to being able to use it.
