I have a couple of these.
First complaint: The pivot is weak and just snapped off at one point. As another user said, this is easily replaced by a screw and nut (I think 8-32 is the right size but don't quote me on that). Do yourself a favor and replace it before it breaks under a critical load. Either these are deadstock they're clearing out on MD and other sites or they just don't care enough to fix this known issue.
Second complaint: The swivel screw isn't secured in any way, or maybe it just became loose very very quickly, so the swiveling will actually work the swivel screw out of the threaded shaft of the outer hook and make the outer hook separate from the rest of the unit after a certain number of rotations. Loctite or nail polish will secure it for you if this starts happening.
Third complaint: After about two years, the rubber disc that holds the outer hook in place deteriorated so that it's very hard to force the hook back into the "storage"/default position because of the mooshy rubber.
Fourth complaint: The paint (I don't think it's powder coating) flakes pretty easily and has completely chipped off in many places. That's presumably why with the new Qlipets they've gone for anodizing.
Still a very useful product and more versatile than the smaller Qlipet (including but not limited to the fact that much deeper "reach" allows appropriate center of gravity for hanging from counters and tables). Just anticipate and prepare for these flaws.
rhinocerosbladderI have both. Build quality is indeed better. There's much more branding on the Qlipet, though, and it has a smaller "reach" for hanging from flat surfaces.
