I no longer consider myself an audiophile'r (?) but still appreciate good sound though my gear is now basic. I run it balanced off a Radstone ES-100 (which I had to buy for this iem) as the sound is just shit running directly off a LG V35* (see update below) - it's not a question of volume but articulation and "mass". Sounds more 'refined' than the DMG and AR-E10 (that's how much of a reviewer I am). I'm not even going to talk about the various KZs or cheaper iems I've experimented with. I'm very impressed with the treble on this, detailed without being harsh (I'm looking at you AR-E10). Bad recordings or encodings don't do so well. Sounds good off the Creative SXFI DAC/AMP but if you are running a mobile setup it drains your phone battery pretty quickly and the equalizing options are not as good as the Radstone. Takes to equalizing very well, which is important because I tune it for bass. Now the bass is superb. Deep, strong and punchy tight. Having a good seal makes or breaks the sound and fit can be a bit finicky. I just found out that with more power they sound even better. Damn. This is one rabbit hole I don't want to go into. At least not all the way. If you have a ES-100 but know of a portable amp/player that partners better but doesn't cost an arm and a leg please do PM me - thanks! I'm not sure how I'm going to be able to upgrade once the bug starts to bite without having to spend way too much for my comfort. Totally worth it but budget for a decent amp and cable. The cable is good enough but still shitty. Oh and Drop/Tin HiFi sucks for the delayed shipping and lack of response. Screw R*yF too. What an *sshole. *update - I am blown away by the performance of the LG V20 and V35 in hi impedance mode, compared to the ES-100. The LGs definitely "sound better" in my back to back experiments. Of course this is subjective so if anyone else disagrees, I do not disagree with your findings. Highs are less harsh and the mid-bass and mids are sweeter. It sounds more natural and it's like I'm listening to the music instead of the P1s. Bass is subjective given that the LGs don't equalize as well as the ES-100, but I am happy with what I am getting.

tnamaSurprised your LG V35 does not work for you. I have a V20 and in Hi impedance mode the P1 sounds great, certainly better than any other device or amp that I own. Considering a Little Bear B4X balanced amp for a bit more juice.

AndyMccThanks for the tip. I haven't tried or investigated how to get the V35 in hi impedance mode (probably because I already have the Creative dongle). I have the V20 too with a new battery I got anticipating combining the P1 with my Creative dongle, to free up my V35. The V20 doubles as my hotspot for international travelling so I already have it with me. However the equalizing options, music playback UI (of the Creative app) and battery life just don't so it for me. My main considerations are portability and convenience (esp. battery life) while going through airports and long haul flights. I just place my Bose anc cans over my iems for the closest I'll get to audio heaven on a plane :). The Bear caught my eye too, I used to listen through tubes back in my hifi days. And I bet it'll sound great paired with the P1 judging from the Bear reviews. Let me know how it works out. How did you get your V20 into Hi impedance mode?

tnamahttps://m.imgur.com/a/ahVRK the link is to a procedure to "trick" the V20 or V35 into hi impedance mode. Make sure you turn on the Quad dac in the sound settings. Since I don't have the 75ohm impedance adapter i just plug in my Sennheiser HD 6xx headphones instead as they have an impedance of 50 ohms. Frankly i have listened to a lot of high end DAPs and the LG is not inferior to them in quality and volume levels. Caveat is I use the stock LG music app as all other music players sound slightly veiled in comparison. Let me know if you have any questions.

AndyMccAppreciate it. What's the battery life like in hi impedance mode? I love how the LG phones sound, especially with my BMGs. There's only two reasons why I have the V35 - Google Fi and the DAC.

AndyMccRight. When you use LG phones in low impedance mode they sound right but they lack the power to push low sensitivity drivers. When high impedance is activated, not only volume but frequency response in the three areas (bass, middle and treble) are increased. Even dynamics and timing seem to be enhanced.

AndyMccI guess what you meant is that the HD 6XX have an impedance of more than 50 ohms because they have an impedance of 300 ohms actually

AndyMccI am blown away. Both the LG V20 and V35 in hi impedance mode definitely "sound better" than the ES-100 in my back to back experiments. This has shown me the limitations of bluetooth (or perhaps just the ES-100), even at LDAC(? typing from memory).

tnamaGlad to hear there is someone as happy as me and thanks for the comparison with the ES100 as you have saved me a $100 experiment :) The EQ options on the LG app are definately limited but I find pushing the low end up 3-4 db and leaving the rest flat, is all I need. The LG V20s use the ESS 9018 Sabre Dac which is why it compares with a lot of dedicated players.

tnamaI bought an LG Hi-Fi Plus module (from the LG G5), and use it as a USB portable DAC/AMP on my laptop. It works quite well for the P1 (in high impedance) mode and is easy to transport ($47.50 new on Ebay with parts in more homemade cases being cheaper).
