Another comparison question but from mid/low level. Coming from a Shure SE215 how much difference are the UE900s. Are we talking more... "Oh, these sound nicer" or will it more be... "I can't believe this! How did I live without these?"
IMO if compared to the 215, the 900s has that surprising sub bass that I wasn't expecting from an amateur driver IEM. But I'll be very honest though the separation and clarity of the audio is a drastic improvement from the 215, I don't really like the tuning. Things you're supposed to be able to hear are not really where they are, yet details that you shouldn't really hear that clear are clearly audible. Yes, you are buying an IEM that has 4 drivers. But that's really much it. Given the similar price, I will actually prefer the 215 over the 900s anytime.
Thanks. SE215 are my daily drivers too and I'm a bit overwhelmed trying to compare various offerings on MD to them, even looking at reviews on head-fi, etc. Excluding personal preferences, I know there are some sub-$200 units that can blow them out of the water, I just need a clear indicator to make the leap as I'm pretty satisfied with the 215.
This smokes the SE215, even lower end discontinued UE400 or UE500, and Brainwavz B100/Pinnacle PX easily beat it.
If you're looking for an upgrade from the 215, I will sincerely recommend you to look at other offerings of similar price instead of the UE900s. I guess we have similar sound preference given the fact that we both like the dynamic driver powered 215 lol.
SE215 will pack more bass since it uses dynamic drivers only. The UE900 are better on the highs/treble end.
Clarity will jump up a lot if paired with a decent audio player. If from a phone I can imagine they won't be that big a world of difference from SE215s you already like.
