Before you buy another mechanical keyboard, you want to test out a variety of mechanical switches and make sure that you’re getting just the right tactile feel and response. Aluminum baseplates outfitted with nine switches each, the Varmilo Switch Testers give you the perfect platform for discovering your perfect type.
Note: At check-out, you can choose either the Cherry or Gateron + Rare Tester. You will also receive a set of 9 keycaps, but if you already have enough then you can remove them at checkout(-$2).
These testers come assembled with Printed Circuit Boards (PCBs), so if you’re in the mood for modding, half the work is already done for you. If you opt for the Cherry set, you can try your hand at the following:
Cherry MX Red, Brown, Blue, Black, Clear, Green, Linear Grey, Tactile Grey, and Milk (White) mechanical switches.
If you opt for the Gateron + Rare Set, you get the following:
Five Gateron switches (Red, Black, Brown, Blue, Clear [35 g]) and four Cherry switches (Linear Grey, Tactile Grey, Milk [White], Green).
If you’re not familiar with Gateron switches, they’re a new addition to the mechanical keyboard market that offers a spin on the standard Cherry design. Built with copper click leafs instead of gold and softer plastic stems that add extra smoothness to your key response, Gateron switches are an interesting alternative to the market leading Cherry MX mechanical switches.
