I'm just wondering how suitable this is for someone who doesn't plan on separating the halves very often, like how sturdy is the keyboard when it's in a single piece? Does it have magnets or latches or something in the center there so it won't fly apart while I'm typing up a storm? Or am I supposed to rely on the combination of case weight and rubber feet to keep the two halves in place?

mechamugenFrom my understanding and reading: https://geekhack.org/index.php?topic=79318.0 there is nothing to make the halfs stick together in a more secured way. The Ultimate Hacking Keyboard: https://www.crowdsupply.com/ugl/ultimate-hacking-keyboard might be better for you in that regard.

MakamiAt first glance that particular keyboard doesn't have enough "rice" for my taste, but I will definitely look more into it. Thank you for bringing it to my attention :)

MakamiWow thanks for linking us to the Ultimate Hacking Keyboard! That thing is amazing. Not to mention it's ability to be expanded upon. Now that's something I'd like to own. I love how solid it appears to be once you push the two halves together. Unfortunately this kb doesn't seem to have the rigidity that the UHK has once it's a single piece. Of course the UHK is also still in crowd funding status.

Neblin7And I couldn't figure out what the outer shell is made of. At that price range probably plastic.
