Whether you’re cooking a crab, boiling pasta, or steaming vegetables, this set has you covered. The main component is the 8-quart stock pot, complete with markings on the inside for measuring Read More
It's definitely a good stock pot, let me start with that. The tri-ply construction and stainless steel rivets already put it ahead of most stock pots/multi-cookers that use a bonded steel base and thin side walls. The steamer basket and pasta insert are fine. I agree with another reviewer in that I feel the pasta insert could be deeper, but I honestly didn't plan on using it much anyway; I prefer to retrieve pasta from the water using tongs, a spider/small scoop, or other tool. The inserts are thin, steel, but that isn't a problem because there is no need for them to be heavier. The pot's side handles are good, though the handle on the lid could be larger.
The bad:
For ideal flavor, pasta cooking water should be heavily salted. Boiling heavily salted water has led to more pitting in the stainless steel than I feel it should having extensively used All-Clad cookware. The pitting and other corrosion can mostly be removed by cleaning with Barkeeper's Friend, though not entirely. This indicates to me a sub-par stainless steel alloy that isn't worth the MSRP. I would otherwise have given this 3 stars, but because Drop had it for such a good price, I am upping it to 4 stars.
dan_bSorry for the delayed reply. No, I have since purchased a 10-piece set of All-Clad D5 cookware, and the All-Clad doesn’t have the same issue. That being said, I still think the Viking is a decent pot. Definitely better than a lot of the cheap bonded-base stockpots out there.
I bought this set during the last drop and I should start by saying I've only used it once so far. I'm giving this 3 stars because the quality is really nice and the included steamer basket is a nice touch. But the reason I'm not giving it 5 stars is because the pasta insert is pretty shallow compared to the stock pot which means you need a bunch of water to cook pasta. I think it'd be better if the pasta insert was deeper.
Nice pot. The inserts arent multi ply, but the pot is, and it is a definite improvement over the crappy 1 ply pasta pot we've had for 20 years. Plus, it reasonably matches our all clad set except for the viking stamp.
By far the best pot set for cooking pasta and steaming fish and veg. Superior quality and craftsmanship. Highly recommended if you can acquire one. 5 stars
This pot and accessories exceeds in quality. The pot itself is large (for a family of four) and sturdy and the accessories are well built. The pot has a ply of aluminum sandwiched between stainless steel throughout the entire pot which helps to distribute heat evenly from the bottom up the sides. It is great for induction stoves or high output burners. It has held up well and I expect it to be very durable. Thank you.
