One of these days, Massdrop has to run a good G-Sync monitor. As a Nvidia user who has been open to an upgrade for a while now, it's unfortunate that it looks like I'll _never_ buy a monitor from Massdrop.
The fact that Massdrop drops 1080ti graphics cards, LG OLED TVs, and $900 TOTL in-ear monitors, while cheaping out with exclusively FreeSync monitors demonstrates a baffling degree of market and customer ignorance on the part of Massdrop's product managers.
This is discussed regularly (literally: this morning with the VP).
We are in this for the long-haul and would enjoy disrupting the G-sync market as well :) .
As we move forward; expect new product lines, steady improvements on our existing lines (using your feedback), Better GUI/OSD, and new features!
I can assure you we are not purposely ignoring that market segment and will continue to work diligently to supplythe products you want!
ViotekUSAAgain, your attention to your customer base is unparalleled, keep that up and the people will follow. You all seem like you care about your product and the quality you provide to your customers.
I await your entry into the g-sync market. The people who are looking for a g-sync with those specs are willing to pay the premium for superior tech.
Love your products, even bought the gold monitor that was up earlier, tho I had to give it to my gf due to the vesa mounts being all sorts of difficult to work with.. regardless, you have my attention, Viotek, hope the long-haul is in it for you as well.
Just an FYI...NewEgg Flash has the Viotek 35” monitor (GN35LD) on sale for the same price ($459). However, the 35” specs out at 2560 x 1080p where as this is 1440p. I’m going back an fourth between the two on which I should purchase. Any opinions out there on which one to purchase since they are the same price? Space is not a problem for me and my desk. Will the 1440p resolution of the 32” be that much better than the 2560x 1080p resolution of the 35”?
Had an unexpected surprise today, my GN32LD was delivered even though the scheduled delivery day was Monday! I've taken quite a few pictures of the 'unboxing' will try to add them to this post.
First some initial impressions with the monitor, package and experience. The box it comes in is very strong and the packing material is the softer Styrofoam, not the hard stuff so that was great to see. This was actually better than I have seen in many name brand panels, well done Viotek!
The first thing I was greeted with was the base and as mentioned, it is truly beefy. From a construction standpoint, this base/stand is as robust as the best I have ever used both with business/pro panels as well as gaming panels like the Predator. Though it is impressive, it is actually the only thing I've had any issue with so far. The two adhesive feet on the front side had come off in the package, so until I realized they were missing, it did not sit on the desk well (bare metal on wood). Easily resolved, found them sticking to the Styrofoam in the box and re-applied to the base and it sits nicely now. The base also had a small dink in one side, not too big of a deal since it is at the back. The real issue with the base/stand is that the monitor is slightly tilted. It is a non-rotating base of course, so there is no adjustment and I have found that the right side of the panel is almost 1/2" higher off the desk surface than the left. A level confirms that it is lilting to the left.
Now, on to the really important part, the monitor/panel itself. Two things that have truly blown me away:
1. The build quality. This monitor has EXCELLENT fit and finish, easily as good and in many cases better than any other retail high end screen I've used or seen. I was honestly expecting something more along the lines of my old Korean Qnix 27, but this thing is beautiful.
2. Built in power supply!! Again, another thing I was not expecting... no wall wart/brick like my Qnix, just a standard power plug on the back. Thank you Viotek, I was already preparing myself on where to cable manage the brick so this was a nice surprise.
Past that, the unit powered on and was instantly recognized to clock all the way up to the advertised 144hz. Naturally, I selected that, and the image quality is truly glorious. 2560x1440 at the 32" size is just perfect. I am for the first time in a couple of years, not having to wear my 1.0x reading glasses to read the screen. It is bright, uniform and the AG coating is very fine with no shimmer. The screen is REALLY bright, I actually bumped it down to 50 and it's still a bit on the bright side. As expected, blacks are beautiful, rich and after staring at pixel test screens for 15 minutes, I can not find a single dead or stuck pixel. Perfect!!
Besides brightness, I have not messed with settings other than the LED bar on the back (feels like a premium feature, though I do wish the LEDs were brighter). I have played several rounds of Quake Champions and it is butter smooth, seeing no tearing, blurring or anything unexpected. I am going to play with the response time setting a bit and see if I can tell any difference there, but even at default, this is an impressive panel for gaming.
Not a whole lot more to note at this point, I'm off to go enjoy it!
LilhartIt is a native 16:9 (2560x1440 resolution), no way of changing that. It may do resolution scaling where you could throw a higher resolution signal at it (4k for instance) even through the physical pixel resolution is constant, but it will always be in a 16:9 aspect ratio for a full screen image, no changing that. If you were to play a 21:9 source on it (like a video), you would simply have black bars on the top/bottom.
Yeah, I'm most certainly not. But if that's what you need to believe to make yourself think you "won" this argument then all the power to ya.
But if you're interested in reality in any way , I game on both an ultrawide 3440x1440 100hz gsync and a 1080p 165hz monitor and when I'm playing competitive anything below 120 fps I will start to see myself make errors that I otherwise would not.
Oh and I also just bought the monitor we are commenting on.. so it would be sort of retarded to buy a monitor with a technology I didn't think made a difference now would it.
Anyway it's obvious to me you don't really know what you're talking about , you just hear some buzzwords and then are gullible enough to believe you actually need it. I suggest in the future maybe just doing some research though, and read up on just why response times they put on the box is almost meaningless. Especially since it's not a regulated standard, and most companies use grey to grey which is useless and some use black to white which is a little more useful, but companies can and almost always exaggerate or flat out lie about the response times.
So now that you've been taken to school young buck, do you feel a little dumb for trying to choose your monitor by a useless metric ?
I suggest using tftcentral for your monitor reviews from now on. They actually test input lag and responsiveness in a controlled scientific setting.
I’d say for sake of the argument, looking at only pure gaming performance, good VA or IPS monitors should outperform TN today. Was not always the case but monitor tech has come a long way in the past 3 or 5 years.
Literally bought this for $424.99 with no tax and no shipping on the May the 4th Ebay sale. As much as I would like to give Massdrop my business, their price cut on most items in the tech community simply isn't deep enough to make it worth the purchase as of late.
KazhualHad to return this monitor :-( The PWM was giving me crazy headaches. I wish I would have tested it first at a store. :-( But, just wanted to say thanks again for the heads up. Also, the text on the monitor was blurry to me. Felt really odd using it for daily tasks (could be the PWM just causing the eye strain and thus blurring the text)
GLoBalReBeLwhy a Vega 64? FreeSYNC and G-SYNC is too keep smooth frames at lower fps..if you have a 1080ti or maybe Vega-64 all that Sync shit is nothing but more input lag for your Keyboard/mouse/ controller ect..quick FYI 1440p 144hz on this 32in panel does take some GPU power for sure... example i avg 130-144hz on my 27in 1440p 165hz 1ms asus display.. i get avg 124-144FPS on this 32in. with all settings at ultra just to see what fps i could get. i turn a few things down only cause i hardcore fps games..ps i would enable G-sync and same fps but would feel almost slugish...4k 120hz g-sync would help but 4k gaming is casual AMAZING looking but casual
I'm currently playing on a 24", 1440p ,165 hz with a 1 ms response time. Will I notice a significant difference between 1 ms and 3 ms? This monitor looks like a good option for the price. I'm just still new to all themonitor technology.
haha very cool to see a company rep actually tell it like it is, and not use nonsense PR speak. I 100% respect you for that, and whether or not it's actually something your company pushes its rep's to do I am very impressed. Super glad to be supporting you guys ! can't wait to get this monitor :D I was the second person to commit hehe...
I run a 1080Ti in my main rig with the X34 predator, but am very much looking forward to having a non-ultrawide absolute beast of a 1440P monitor for some competitive shooters. I have been reluctant until now to pull the trigger on a 1440P 16:9 because I couldn't find one that was bigger than 27 inch that I liked.... I just find 27 a tad bit too small for my liking... Then I got a massdrop e-mail for this bad boy. I was sold instantly :D
Just a side note.. You guys should get this monitor out to some tech reviewers (preferably youtube) so more eyes can get on this thing! The first thing I did when I saw this monitor was looked for some youtube coverage of it... The only one I found was of what seems to be an earlier model of this same panel that didn't have the aggressive "gamer" style stand.
Phouse1no you will not! i promise..1ms -7ms i tested alot and not even my hardcore pro friends knew if it was a 1ms or the 7ms display i have..they all stated feels like my Rig at home.
