MoeeedI personally prefer Gateron brown over Cherry brown. It has a smoother feel w/o sacrificing the tactile feedback. Cherry brown has a gritty feel which feels cheap.
It would've been awesome if this drop had offered both Gateron and Zealios switches as options.
Jino74I've got a few boards with Cherry Brown which I really liked, finally due to comments on the boards like yours I bought a Gateron brown keyboard. Now I have a very expensive garbage keyboard that I can't use ... the Gaterons clatter around loosely, and feel like they are trying to escape from under my fingers. I have no idea about the grittiness that people talk about, I've never noticed that, and in fact the overall cheap feeling from the Gateron keys which rattle and make noise and don't fit tightly into their sockets ... Vortex keyboards are just really solid pieces for the money, and this Race3 layout is brilliant. I'm glad they specced Cherry keys, they are far superior than Gateron, and totally worth the extra $10-20 for a quality switch set.
rrluthiSorry to hear about your awful experience with Gateron. I've had two boards with Gateron brown and none have given me the kind of problems you described. Perhaps I should avoid a third Gateron board since they say "third time's the charm".
Although I prefer Gateron over cherry, I recently discovered that I prefer zealio switch, and am on a quest to find a 84 key compact board with one of their switches.
Deeper and deeper into the rabbit hole I go....
Jino74I think the keycaps are pretty personal, honestly. If you don't mind the rattle, the Gaterons are probably fine. To me they just feel super loose. Also, from what I've read the newer (2017) Cherry's are better than the ones produced in recent years.
